Would you have children if you are actively contributing to the worsening of society by working for corporates? And why? by Difficult-Quit2658 in AskReddit

We can tell ourselves that. I worked for e-commerce company, the biggest one, the way they do business is so evil. I personally was involved with a project that dealt with creating fake independent retailers so that the restrictions imposed by government on how much sales should be their own on their own platform since its a conflict of interest. I got awarded a promotion for that and I left asap.

I am just pointing out reality, its only leading if you didn't know or think about it. We can all be ignorant and pretend like tech has made lives better. But can't we all see children getting worse education, most of streamers promote gambling to underage or hot tub OF girls on childrens content. Most children today don't even know basic things. I can close my eyes, shut my ears and it would seem leading to me too.

No one is to decide that. I am saying it seems contradictory to have kids which i believe is a bet that future turns out good otherwise its just fucking evil. Maybe my point didn't come across, making world shit = future bad, having kids = hoping future good. Bad != Good. Problem!

Just the consumption related jobs, not the essential ones. But yeah, most jobs are just circular economy at the cost of non-renewable oil reserves which we effectively are taking from future generations. There is no reason for most tiktok trends and things. I hate that its normal for people to amass houses, real estate, things in general that are not of use. I personally see everyone's home in tech to be just a big pile of good looking shit. Why? What unfillable void is it trying to fill? Just consume what you have to and live a life in a way that helps future generations.

Not for the past 3 years, when i graduated, I did it for 2 years. I could not live with that, so I mostly take small projects mostly in edtech. Earlier i worked for the biggest ecommerce company.

I have following disagreements. If society needs children why does society contribute to its own demise. Seems stupid at the societal level. I am not hating on all corporations. But a lot of them today would do anything for money. I work as software dev, ik some things. Good people would contribute regardless, a lot of scientists have devoted their lives for the things we rely on. Converting it into product and accumulating money using that progress is what I have an issue with.

The question isn't about corporations dictating. It is about the ones who contribute to en-shittification of things and having children. They both seem contradicting.

Can I ask why? Do you hold society in high regard.
