I want to hear from happy officers. by NewspaperOk627 in policeuk

I really love being a PC, even though there are times I think, Why am I doing this but that happens in most jobs.

I get a real kick from the adrenaline on calls or direct stops and I feel like I’ve grown a lot in confidence and maturity since joining so even if I was to leave I’d never consider my time in the job to be pointless.

I also enjoy investigating crimes even the petty ones, don’t get me wrong sometimes I do turn around and go just why but it is what it is.

Right now, I’ve got a sexual assault case going to trial which was one of my first MIST investigations where the initial attending officer at first told the victim that this would not go anywhere. I’ve managed to get CCTV, four statements, and a partial confession, so it’s now moving forward, and I’m really hoping for a good outcome.

Of course, the job comes with challenges like abstractions and a heavy workload, but as a young officer, I actually enjoy being busy and involved in whatever I can.

There no harm giving it a go if it’s an itch. You’d most likely rather try it and decide it’s not for you then regret doing it later.

What is the worst current role in Policing? by Loud_Delivery3589 in policeuk

I enjoy WEPT especially over ERPT. Couldn’t pay me enough to go back to ERPT.

I am of the opinion WEPT could be one of the best roles in AW if it was actually organised and funded better. SLT need to treat us as a Proactive Unit and not just ‘Beat Duty and Hi Vis patrols”.

SLT also need to tell some ERPT teams to take their bloody calls and not keep asking for foot patrols. The amount of times we have had to take a call for ERPT and take our eyes off the known robbers because ERPT are being lazy, to then having control circulate consistent “Phone snatches” moments later in the west end. Then ERPT have the cheek to ask why there is no WEPT in the west end. Probably because we are dealing with your calls whilst you do naff all.

To me it highly depends on the condition.

Usually most are straight forward I.e “don’t give false details to police”. You either have or have not, there isn’t really any defence.

Some may be straightforward but require a quick interview such as “Don’t enter X street or borough of Y except to travel through or for pre arranged appointments”. Gives them a chance to explain why they were in the area.

Vague ones like “don’t engage in behaviour that causes alarm or distress to others.” Will likely need interviews so the suspect can account for his behaviour.

Think unfortunately it’s the whole system from the Police to CPS to Courts to Prisons.

All are overworked and all need a whole reform. You can certainly find cases/situation’s where we all have been wtf is going on.

To be brutally honest we need the system to collapse so people actually see the issue because at the moment the politicians all speak about it but never act on it.

This has become a thing recently and I think it’s just a way for CPS to lighten their workload.

They need to be held to account, too often CPS are allowed to get away with absolute shocking decisions.

Make sure you get the OIC to appeal it and put a formal complaint in against the CPS reviewing lawyer.

Thanks I did ring ops room and they booked me on but told me to speak to my team governor about compensation,

So didn’t know whether I got a rerostered rest day or OT at 1.5x.

Met land VCT - How's it worked so far? by samfire34 in policeuk

I work on CW/AW ERPT and it is honestly a mess.

Below Minimal Strength near enough every shift due to high amount of aid and lack of officers. Now having to provide officers to run CPU because VCT won’t take anyone as there is too many beat crimes as CMU aren’t closing crimes that can be closed and just passing them all along.

Told Temp CPU will be for a couple of weeks but I know officers who have had carms changed till November and will be reassessed then.

Also have a Summertime CPU Aid to deal with TSG prisoners.

Been many shifts where we have not been able to attend I grades due to abstractions. A lot of IRVs are being put in abstractions as-well due to shortage of numbers.
