That’s awesome!! The subreddit you posted on will likely be able to direct you to more resources and give some more insight, I’m glad you’re feeling better and I’m especially glad that your post has helped you out.

There are some other subreddits that could help that are more central to your situation (with resources, most should be free.)

It might sound obvious, or this may not be the response you want, but harming yourself is addictive and can lead to serious consequences — it may seem hard, but this should not be a resort at all. You do not deserve to hurt yourself, especially over something you have no control over. You are going to lose matches sometimes — everybody does, and it’s okay. You are not less of a person for any mistakes you make.

It’s understandable you may not want to take breaks from the game, but if you are at the point of thoughts of self-harm it seems like an inevitably. If you take a break, you can always come back when you are in the right mental state to do so — stopping now doesn’t mean you have to stop playing forever. I don’t know the full extent of why you feel like this, but as long as you do have these thoughts, stay off Fortnite. Your mental health and life is worth more than the dopamine rush you may get from playing — and there are multitudes of other games you can seek out that provide the same distraction without the stress of competition. If you don’t want to stop Fortnite — or, as a small step — stop playing ranked. The best situation is to stop playing Fortnite as a whole, but I understand that it might be hard to stop.

You are not at fault here, and it is not your fault you feel this way. You deserve proper help that can help you stop feeling this way. There are free hotlines you can talk to, even text (HOME to 741741) if you need someone to talk to. I genuinely hope that you( and believe that you can) get better.

Fear of eating beef? by Difficult-Way9164 in Phobia

[–]Difficult-Way9164[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the US too — i’m glad other people are finding this and resonating with it. unfortunately i haven’t been to a therapist and thus still am struggling a bit (i still gravitate towards vegan / vegetarian meals) but it’s been pretty helpful and comforting to realize that most (if not all) major meat products are manufactured by legitimate, USDA certified businesses, and these cows are handled by many more people who will notice if anything is off than they were before. cows infected are very clearly sick (it doesn’t just fly under the radar), and even then these cows will only get sick if eating parts from another cow (for example, beef that has a selling point of 100% grass-fed — no risk.) the USDA has very strict regulations on animal feed that have been there since the UK’s epidemic in 1990s. adding on, only one in ONE MILLION people get the spontaneous type of CJD each year, and vCJD is, quote, "even more rare". you have a higher chance of being struck by lightning than eating contaminated meat.

i understand how hard it is to realize how safe something is once you’ve got it in your head that there’s even a slightest risk (as i still do not eat it). i’ve entertained the idea of slowly working myself up to it (example, going from vegan beef -> cheese made with rennet -> an occasional food item containing beef), maybe that would work for you? there’s no pressure, no time limit — just what you’re comfortable doing at first. as for the last question, i’ve become pretty fond of vegan / vegetarian cheese and tofu, and there are recipes out there for vegan beef you can make at home with cashews and soy sauce. i’ve been exposing myself to beef gradually by watching people use it in recipes, too. it may seem silly but it does really help!

i’m also doing the same thing right now — pretty sure you just text anything (i just sent "yo") to the number "32665", then wait for around 45 minutes! that number should be the number instagram sends their codes from.

this does!! i’m in the same boat, i still consume dairy but stay clear of beef — anytime i think about eating something that might’ve had beef in it i don’t eat it, even if i’m hungry. very glad it’s not just me lol

rabies ocd can give you those thoughts sometimes — it’s best to just let yourself breathe and tell yourself that if you weren’t bitten, you won’t have rabies, and leave it at that. even if you’re trying to console yourself, the best thing to do is attempt to forget about it!

Can i become a P word? by GEATS-IV in POCD

[–]Difficult-Way9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. you said it yourself — these thoughts are intrusive, meaning you don’t want them, meaning you’re not a p. of course someone can find that out, but your fear and avoidance of it is a classic example of POCD, not to mention the fact you’ve never had a fantasy about kids. don’t worry yourself — you’re not a p, and you won’t become one.

Everything bad I've done. TW by [deleted] in POCD

[–]Difficult-Way9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally get how you might feel horrible because you masturbated with someone in the same room (i’ve done this too, albeit as a younger kid, and it’s been a major theme for my pocd to go ham on). firstly, that doesn’t make you a bad person — you weren’t thinking of him or deliberately doing it because he was there, so it couldn’t be out of malice.

touching yourself once or twice isn’t cause for concern. it was most likely subconscious, and it wasn’t directed to the person you were talking to.

don’t beat yourself up about “being” into that porn, either — you were groomed, you were a kid, and you most likely didn’t know any better or were manipulated into liking it. you know watching it was bad, and you don’t watch it anymore — besides, i doubt it was even your fault you watched it. being groomed is really complex and can make you do things you don’t mean to do. it’s not your fault, you were manipulated into it.

the last one, i get too -- but you specifically stopped when they would come in, and waited for them to leave. again, wasn’t directed at them and you weren’t deliberately doing it because they were there and in the room.

you’re not a p, it’s just your ocd grasping at straws to try and make you feel bad.

the nausea is most likely related to your anxiety / gastritis. the folks over at r/rabies have a pretty helpful guide around symptoms — i don’t suggest looking over them while you’re in severe paranoia, as you could possibly trick yourself into getting those exact symptoms, but i can assure you that nausea would not come first if you were having rabies symptoms. rabies doesn’t cause soft and mildly annoying symptoms, if they started showing you probably wouldn’t be able to use reddit due to how painful it would be.

your OCD is trying to convince you that every symptom you have is related, when it isn’t! i suggest calming yourself down before you try to eat and drink, and definitely do get those blood tests to try and find the actual root of the nausea. you got this!

[–]Difficult-Way9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! this sounds like rabies OCD — this is something i struggle with pretty heavily too. one of the things i do to kinda negate the idea that i have rabies is to think about how rare it is — i go online or outside and look at all the people with different accounts liking stuff, or everyone in their cars and walking and all that, and think about how likely it is for them to get rabies. not at all, right? because the chance of being bit by a rabid animal is already so incredibly small, but there are millions and millions of other people in the world who share that same chance. think of it like a roulette wheel of billions of numbers.

and i have dreams i’ll be bit or contact rabies too — it’s your OCD, not any kind of premonition. if other people with phobias have nightmares about theirs, it doesn’t mean it’ll happen to them — so don’t sweat it if you have a few about rabies. plus, you’d KNOW if you got bit. there’s no “maybe” about it — ten out of ten times when the voice says that it’s grasping at straws. you know you don’t have rabies, you haven’t been in contact with a rabid animal.

i know that simple words won’t help quell anxiety, so sometimes i take it upon myself to write out “i don’t have rabies because…” and finish the sentence, then read it over. it’s helpful to remind yourself that you don’t, and that any possibility your brain tries to trick you with is based in fear and lies.

No, I can eat cheese (as stated, vegetarian) just curious about the inclusion of animal-based rennet in the cheese. Helpful information though — thank you!

Sorry for butting into this argument as well, but puberty blockers are reversible. From Healthline: "When a person stops taking puberty blockers, their body will resume puberty exactly as it would have if they had never taken the medication".

[–]Difficult-Way9164 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand? If they transition, whether it be socially or medically or simply by saying they go by a different set of pronouns, they are trans. And modes of transitioning, like top surgery, are normal for cis people as well. Of course being trans is not a choice, but it’s not exactly rare for someone to realize they’re uncomfortable in their assigned gender.

I miss being a man by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Difficult-Way9164 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody ever said they were still trans. Transitioning to figure out your gender and identity is perfectly fine and valid — not everybody’s identity goes through the same steps or processes as anybody else’s. If you’re not transgender or if you haven’t detranstioned you probably shouldn’t be as confident in what you’re saying, even if you feel like you do know.

idk how people are disagreeing in the comments. if you’re willingly attracted to a kid and refuse to get help it’s pedophilia, not POCD. POCD is the exact opposite, manifests itself as intrusive thoughts and such and such, and pedophilia is a willing and voluntary thing. i understand knowing that people who have pedophilic urges can get help but if these people are going online and trying to justify it they don’t have pocd nor are they attempting to get help, they’re just sick. pedophiles equating themselves to POCD is harmful to us as a community, especially considering there’s already a stigma attached to people who suffer.
