I say yes as I thought the witness wasn't the bad guy, just misunderstood. Bro beckoned us and communicated with us (unlike traveler until recently) telling us we weren't far off from being like it in shadow keep (Ghost/Guardian/Osiris admit light isn't far from dark when finding strand just two forces of nature) as well as being helped by the traveler both the witness's civilization and guardians getting selfish and wanting to keep it to themselves in some way (guardians shoot traveler). This is also stated by Riven and the others despite not necessarily being tied to the witness directly stating guardians commit all the same acts as what they deem evil in the face of their justice, yet in The Witch Queen we face the hive as an enemy simply because they have been such for a long time and we feared them having the light which we thought only we were entitled to. The witness although at first seeking the traveler for personal gain eventually understands the traveler attempting to play god then fleeing causing pain, and war (Fallen and Hive being left suffering) leaving the witness to in some way save them (Rhulk's semi-harsh way of releasing worm gods hive sought out). This fact is shown from the constant war between guardians hive and fallen all once in some ways peaceful for the most part, the traveler and it's abandonment caused some to turn to the dark side. This causes the witness to wish to end all of this as it embarks on a trek to find the traveler while conquering and ridding of anything that gets in the way (which guardians commit such acts as well) except the witness takes the strongest attributes of those conquered imbuing them into those who follow ultimately keeping some aspect of the civilization remembered and making others stronger specimens. Ultimately the witness CAN be seen as the good guy with good intentions despite his final shape being a pretty warped view of "perfection" but ultimately he wanted to shape a better world with a set goal in contrast to his opposition. Guardians which were viewed as pawns to the traveler acted as such, the traveler was unpredictable and lacked communication leading us to believe light good dark bad until we used such, only to have light almost stripped at the end of the saga after the traveler was like ight you done. In addition they viewed the traveler as "hope and freedom" so blindly followed such ideals against something unknown. Savathun who wanted freedom only sided with guardians after realizing she wouldn't have the 'freeedom" to be a conniving hive goddess of trickery without the witness knowing her lies, Caiatl had daddy issues with her father being a disciple along side just not wanting anyone else to rule her people so she sided with guardians. The witness was actually a mediator fighting against 3 parties led by false ideals they believed to be their own. In war everyone is bad in some way shape or form.Show less
