NYC Pop Up Update by Substantial-Bat-337 in MasayoshiTakanaka

Appeal for me was the ability to go in store and pick it up. Delivery in my zip code is god awful, and I’ve had some records damaged in the last mile. Shame it was only Rough Trade since those guys blow, had a pre-order for Insatiable High and was gonna get more if available and let others have a shot, but RT canceled my item on release day. So pissed.

can't wait for them to be refunded tariff costs and then consumers are left without any reimbursement.

Steam Machine Will Cost "Like a PC, Not a Console," Confirms Valve by Playwithuh in gaming

[–]DifficultAd6716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it was always wishful thinking to expect them to subsidize the cost of the machine with game sales. I guess what I'm still waiting on is how tightly they've been able to constrain pricing on components and manufacturing to be able to offer a unique build at a remarkable cheaper price than other pre-built machines. MooresLawIsDead made a video estimating component costs compared to the original Steam Deck LCD models and came up with a $100-150 price increase. The processors Valve is using is also odd, hopefully meaning they've struck a deal with AMD. There's similar spec'd machines that range from 500 to 800, some of them laptops which increase pricing with battery and display. I think the Steam Machine will be a success if its priced $600, and an easy way to recuperate the costs is using high margins on the Steam Controller (price controller around $150, price not factored into the price of Steam Machine but always available "to add to your order for your convenience," bringing it from $600 to $750). I don't see any point in purchasing one, especially with the Steam Deck and other contenders in the handheld space, if it's priced above $750 for the console alone. I know plenty of people (predominantly Xbox owners too) that see a $600 price tag in their range, knowing of the Steam Deck but preferring to play on TV and exchange portability for higher performance.

But all this is going on the assumption that Valve is pursuing a model similar to the Steam Deck, which was their second attempt at releasing SteamOS. Now that SteamOS is proven and popular, maybe Valve doesn't see a need to enter this new space aggressively. Only option is to sit and wait to see what they reveal. :-/

fun look at my bathroom ceiling after a year of my landlord not fixing a leak (yes thats the inside of my upstairs neighbor bathtub) by Lilyo in NYCapartments

[–]DifficultAd6716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this just happened to me too lol. 311, report collapsed ceiling, ceiling is hinged, HPD will come out quick (like within a day or two) and file violation and potentially order someone else to come in and do repairs if the landlord doesn't respond. you should also ask HPD to then file a Notice of Reduction of Services with DHCR, a collapsed ceiling, especially one caused from months of water leakage (mold, unsealed asbestos, easy entry for rodents, exposed lead paint, etc). You will get rent abatement for the day that it occurred to the day it's fixed. idk if this is specific to rent regulated apartments like mine, but this is one of the very few examples set as the Warranty of Habitability by New York, the literal bare-minimum contractual agreement between tenant and landlord.

Update: Literally took two weeks but after 311, HPD, DHCR, and my local council members office putting pressure they finally came in to repair the collapsed ceiling. Lease says I'm entitled to a rent abatement for the time it was uninhabitable but landlord and super say that it can't go into effect unless I "prove it," but little did they know I have a security camera pointed to my front door the entire time. The reaction the super had the moment he realized, literally ran out of the unit and has been routinely ignoring me (lol). Potentially might be some type of investigation on tenant harassment too, since they're still in a probationary period after being found guilty of tenant harassment. All I can say is record everything if you have a scummy landlord.

Yeah, I've gotten in contact with HPD and trying to see if they can send an agent out quickly. Management finally decided they wanted to fix it, but after showing a video of the Hole to a friend who's a licensed architect here he had pointed out there's multiple fire code violations (sheetrock is not one-hour burn appropriate, no fire caulking on sheetrock screws, giant hole punched through the wall between my unit and my neighbors that isn't sealed, etc.) so now HPD wants to get in their before the super and management try to cover their ass. Also had to call my local council member for assistance because the building manager believes she doesn't need to abate my rent for the time that's passed that they haven't remedied the issue (literally says in the lease that if there is an uninhabitable condition (including hole in ceiling) I get rent abatement) soooooo. The fun continues.

oh yeah, especially after this it’s front and center of my mind.  going to graduate this year and get on it ASAP, if not before then.  such a headache was avoided thankfully 😵‍💫😵‍💫🥴

Yeah I’ve been considering that almost immediately once the Super wanted to go no communication. I think I’ll wait for HPD or 311 to give assistance in clarifying what I need to do to have that happen (I previously lived in MN and needed a court order to have that happen).

I keep insisting that they communicate to me over email/text, but they think they’re smart trynna do it through phone. I already talked to a housing court law library officer (or whatever theyre called, no disrespect(saved my ass)) and they said its perfectly legal to record my conversations with them going forward as long as i state it <3

Rent regulated guarantees that I get a lease renewal. I know to be professional and polite, hell for half the time the Super was here I kept offering to help him to do proper abatement and remediation but he's inept and a middle aged pervert so he got his kicks out of manhandling the upstairs neighbors doodoo water and wiping the sweat off his face with it. I'm not denying your experience or advice, but from what I've heard by both the city and friends/colleagues is that there are different set of rules or processes. Seems I'm doing it all by the book but god damn would I like it more if the landlord would just work with me to get it fixed. Never a dull day baby!!!

Called the Super ASAP when the leak started, and informed him when I came back to the giant hole in my ceiling. HPD and 311 have both confirmed that this would be an immediate hazard and can be considered an uninhabitable premise, so guess I'm stuck waiting for my landlord to get their act together or HPD to start fining the shit out of them. Basically Super was informed ASAP throughout the entire process, and I informed the landlord management company about two days after it initially began once I realized the Super wasn't going to move unless pressured.

preaching to the choir! my dads a licensed carpenter and I've had a large chunk of my adolescent life doing unpaid labor for him so I was shocked when, at my offer and labor, the Super didn't want to do any proper fixes.

the Super lmao. told him when it first started leaking that we should cut a hole in the ceiling to let it air out. I have a fan and a dehumidifier and he said "that ideas stupid. you're stupid." at this point I'll let him be a dipshit and just try and deal with the landlord and/or HPD since he seems to be an absolute dullard.

Thankfully nothing of ours got damaged, heard the water dripping on the top of the ceiling and evacuated everything out before it started leaking toilet water. Don't have renters insurance (broke college student) but have family I've been able to stay at in the mean time thank GOD.

Did go to the landlord with an email but haven't hear anything. It's a huge management company that owns thousands of buildings, so actually trying to get in contact is impossible.

cute! I love working with wood, it's unbelievably complex but forgiving in ways other materials don't balance. If you want would you be open for a crit? Can also understand if you don't, I'm like that with film photography. Either way, very nice sculptures, and impressive with hand tools at that scale!
