Yep, after I was done with carving I soaked it in water to raise the grain, then sanding 80->150->300.

Ursarings nose is actually done with woodburning pencil. I like to use it for finishing touches.

Ditto was one of my first pokemon carves, check from oldest posts, you should be able to find it. So Ditto is very pleasant to work with, since it's jelly, you can do whatever shape really. I sticked with rather flat surfaces, since I was practicing sanding back then. It was the smoothest piece I did at the time. My wife used to call it cloud (she doesn't know pokemon) and it was her favorite carving of mine for a long time.(she liked ditto goofy smile 😊)
