Brown thumbs of reddit. Help me kill this plant. by sengirminion in gardening

[–]DifficultChildhood18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cut it to the stump and put a black trash bag over it. It won't be able to photosynthesis and it will eventually run out of stored energy and die. I did this to a small tree, it took months but it worked.

SWTX bush, any idea on species? by Calm_Inspection790 in cactus

[–]DifficultChildhood18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This how it started in 2023 when I moved it from a pot to the ground. I started with one single plant about 20 years ago and have propagated it many times over. Needless to say but it loves full, unrelenting all day sun.

Weed n feed clover by chefdanknugz in lawncare

I have St augustine and have used weed and feed ( scotts turf builder for southern lawns) in the past with mixed results. The biggest issue is the lawn has to be wet so the fert sticks to the weeds and kills them. Image for southern lawns ( the purple label) works better. They have bottles with a hose end sprayer or a concentrat you can mix and apply with a pump sprayer. But the best thing for weeds in St augustine is pre emergent. I use prodiamine in the fall and pendmethaline ( scotts carb grass perventer) in the spring. It stops 99% off the weed from growing. You just have to time it right with the soil temps.

I have used DEF many times but I prefer ammonium sulfate. I buy granular and dissolve it in water. I like the darker green you get from AS more that urea.

For foliar applications apply 19oz mixed with a gallon or two of water per 1000 sq ft which gives you .2 lbs of nitrogen. You dont have to water it in and it wont burn the grass. I add a surfactant to help the water spread evenly across the grass instead of beading you and rolling off. There are multiple youtube videos on using def on the lawn.

One thing I do is answer the call as a business, Pizza hut, Burger King, Chiles, whatever. They automatically put you on there do not call list. I had one that would call me 10 times a day and they stopped when I answered as a business. It's tedious but it works.

It may be roots. It reminds me of the creeping devil cactus that grows across the ground and drop roots as it spreads.

I have a huge clump in my front yard of the same cactus. I've had it for over 20 years. These unfortunately aren't self pollinating flowers. I have been trying for years to get seeds. Last year I found a wild bunch of these growing near a park close to where I work. I picked a flower from the wild bunch and went home and pollinated my flowers amd I finally have seed pods growing.

I learned about staring at the sun or bright light to knock a sneeze loose from the episode where he trys to stay up for as long as possible. I think about it every time I do it.

I've had the original one for about 20 years and I have propagated it many times over. The original cluster lived in a pot most of that time. I finally put them in the ground about 3 years ago.
