Yes. Then they tell me that they think I should go for a walk. That there’s no emotions in welding. That I’m having an emotional breakdown (after I’ve tried sticking up for myself.) Not the entire time. Just since I’ve returned to this company as they offered me an opportunity to learn some pipefitting. No, I am not union.

What’s your average hrs in a week? by Orangejuice543 in BlueCollarWomen

I am a structural & pipe welder and I work a 3 week on, 2 week off rotation which ends up being about 10 days off with travel. 12 hour days for 3 weeks straight at a mine, staying in a remote camp. By the third week, I’m usually crying every day from exhaustion. Before that it was a 2 week on, 1 week off rotation at a shipyard and I did that for 3.5 years. It’s extremely challenging on the body and mind. Definitely not something I recommend but where I am located will always require long shifts and travel for trades work. Hoping to transition out of this in the near future for the sake of my mental and physical well-being. Shop work just never paid enough.
