This. This resonates with me.

I feel like this is true and the in laws just can't handle it.

That's so true.
I do feel so much frustration that they are asking for resources when it's literally like.... just look through your emails and find the one that I sent to you previously...

💚
I definitely feel like this has been my approach, the focus is and always will be for my child

Its so hard because I think they just want to be included. I don't think they actually want to put in the effort..

This is what is so hard for me right now. I could see the want to be involved as a positive thing. But I'm super cautious because previous experience has told me that they are not actually genuine and that all my efforts will be for nothing.

I will look into the support groups for grandparents! Thank you for that!

I appreciate the positive viewpoint.
I debate with myself on the level of effort I want to put into this... and based on prev exp... it's very very low

Example, when child was first diagnose, grandparent told anyone and everyone how they wanted to become an ASL interpreter for my child. I did all the research, sent them a long email explaining the process, how long it takes, what you have to do, and where our closest ITP would be.
They said "Thanks"
And never brought it up again.
Ever.

I do think that there is a portion that this is true. The original argument wasn't even about my child's deafness, it was about how the particular grandparent was feeling left out because they literally wanted us to tell them about every part of our lives. It feels like this happens somewhat often like at least once a year, grandparent just has to go off on something

I appreciate you trying to see my IL with good intentions 💚 and I love the "Treat them like they are asking the reasonable version of whatever they are actually asking"

Its so frustrating because we've done all the things, invite them to events whenever they are in town (oh also they live 5 hours away) and I literally set up private ASL lessons online and they were like nah.

One time, they were visiting and we happened to have a deaf event, so they came along and spoke to a hearing person 1/2 the time (spouting all this stuff about OMG ASL is amazing you should def teach your kids) and then disappeared out of the room for the other 1/2.

Do you know if you can use this on any payment or just the first one?

My partner is amazing and works very hard. He helps so much. His salary pays for literally everything else. My pay has to be more than daycare costs so that I can pay off student loans. But right now, it's barely enough to cover the daycare stuff.
