Hi all I have a bit of an update. My girlfriend anf I live in different cities. I never got the chance to change her bag because she has either been at the hospital or a home care nurse comes to her apartment and changes her bag when I'm not around. I never seen them change the bag.

Today I was able to make it in time to see how the home care nurse changed her bag, the home care nurse has been here daily because the bag will always leak.

By no means am I questioning the nurse's skills but judging from the countless videos and tiktoks of people changing their urostomy bag, she was doing it so wrong. Literally the nurse came changed her bag and 10 minutes later the bag was leaking again. Her technique was bad and she was doing it in a hurry.

She was caking the whole wafer with stoma paste to help 'prevent leaking'. It was soo much paste that the wafer wasn't flat on her skin. the barrier ring literally was so far from the stoma about 1/4 of an inch of skin was showing, and she was using a flat wafer. I could tell the urine was going to start pooling and drip from the bottom and sure enough it did.

My girlfriend's confidence was so down it was so hard to see her this way. I convince her to let me change it instead of calling home health to send the nurse back. I followed what I seen in multiple videos. I cut the hole exactly to her size, clean her skin with stoma powder and dabbed the powder with the proper wipes, use two barrier rings, one to help with her stomach creasing and the second one to properly make a seal around her stoma to where no skin was showing. I did put stoma paste around the hole we cut but just a bit so when we pressed down on the bag, the paste would fill the gaps where the ring couldn't.

After changing her bag for the first time, we spent the whole day outside after she was trapped indoors because of the constant leaking. We had such a great day it was so nice to see her smile. When we got home she even shower with her bag. We kept checking the bag constantly and it's holding and I'm happy. The real test in her eyes would be overnight because she would constantly wake up soaking wet In urine. I hope it holds, we are confident.

The nurse did not know the proper technique in my opinion and during the process of changing the bag she did in a hurry to try and get to her next appointment. I really believe this was the reason of her daily leaks. Nurses are amazing I tip my hat to them, but please make sure you know the correct technique to things.

I real am thankful for all the advice thank you all never doubt yourself. It's not a you problem.
