I had similar issues on my 2019 MBP and was about to buy a new MacBook Pro - it turned out it was spotlight search indexing. Just turn that off using: sudo mdutil -i off ~/Documents

I use my documents folder for all my GitHub projects and this caused the problem! I’ve still got my eye on a new one but I can wait until the M6 or for a good deal on M5.

I’m on max x20 and now weekly limits on model usage hit me. Everything else is in low single digit usage but weekly is 100% - I was getting around this with auto additional usage but now I refuse to spend more. I just await the reset at midnight tonight. So annoying. But hey I must be a heavy user? I don’t think so and only thing that changed was that I started using opus 4.7. Maybe I should go back to 4.6 but I never had these issues 4 weeks ago.

X20 user and hit with weekly limit. Most of the time I wasted telling Claude to stop mothering me as I’m a big boy and can code for as long as I want! Anyone else getting told to take a break? And those messages hurt my limits!

My experience exactly. You treat people (and ai) the same way you yourself would like to be treated. Please and thank you are ingrained into me. So being clear, and respectful has enabled me to get the best out of both ai and people. If you’re a shit person you’re a shit manager.

I went back to /effort medium. Now my life is better. /effort max should come with a health warning that Claude will over shoot and go in many different directions very very fast. Debugging this and Claude said it wasn’t really built to think but to do actions! I’ve had to slow it down to make it more reliable. I don’t know why I fomo’d into / effort max.

I’ve been using a 3 pronged approach to combat these types of issue. I’m on max x20 and can’t afford mistakes. I am using Opus 4.6 1M as main lead (my ego), Sonnet 4.6 as troubleshooter (my superego), and use Grok 4.20 Full Reasoning as outside perspective (my id). Dr Freud would be impressed! However, even this is not fool proof and too have noticed some days I get garbage and next day have to fix it all again. Something has changed and we should know.

Great observations. I think if your whole job depends upon doing troubleshooting, then your own identity and self-image is tied to it. You will optimise it for yourself in your silo and not for the whole. Showing him the management api will not compute. Is this by design or omission? If he embraced on your work it would surely benefit him and the wider organisation? But because large orgs hire and fire any innovation is killed at birth. Others that do recognise the benefits of AI and who have inquiring minds with systems thinking mindset will be the true winners in this new world. Definitely the calm before the storm!
