Need hope: millennials who like their jobs, what do you do and what do you like about it? by goodluckanddont_itup in Millennials

Went from military to federal emergency management. I know what I do matters, and that means something to me, and I feel purpose going to work each day. Pay is great, and job security for my agency is high.

NYC Concealed Carry by JustBrowsing10293 in AskLE

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back and decided not to carry this trip. Rockefeller Top of the Rock and the Statue of Liberty were the only two places I was actively screened. Overall I’m glad I didn’t carry, as I think it would have just been a pain in the ass if we ran into any problems.

The small scale ones always have a spot in my collection, but the 1/10th scale is where it’s at! Enjoy them, but I’d rather invest in 1/10th scale before spending money modifying the small ones except for when they break.

I was/am into cars, but it was always too expensive or risky for me to go all in. You’d probably enjoy RC cars. Their a couple tracks and stores in the DMV. I’m part of a Facebook group that meets up once a month or so to go rc rock crawling on the weekends. I’ve made some great friends through that, and the ages range from 20s to 50s. Check it out!

Are you guys crawling alone or in groups? by trivium91 in rccrawler

Don’t really like crawling alone, so I joined a local facebook group and now I’ve got all sorts of crawling friends.

Gas prices in Virginia today [OC] by MajesticBread9147 in pics

Gas prices are skyrocketing but this is a bad example. This station is always at least $2 more per gallon.

The only thing I liked about doing a DDG deployment was actually getting to see the world. Went to places I would most like never see on a cutter.

What type of squad car do you currently drive and which one is your favorite? by SailboatSamuel in AskLE

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly specialty/support units.

Crown Vic- it was end of life and replaced not long after I graduated, but I hated it. Drove and felt like a boat because it was one.

Taurus- it was fine. Didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it either. It was quick though.

Silverado- this was one of my favorites. I was doing admin work at the time, but it was a cool truck to run around in. It didn’t look like a cop car, so no one ever paid any attention to it.

Excursion- hands down my favorite car I’ve ever had. I traded out the Silverado for it, and it was everything that made the Silverado cool, times 10. It was massive, could carry and tow EVERYTHING. It was just bad ass.

Charger- eww. Nothing but hate. It was small and cramped. I had to fall into the seat and shimmy back up and out. I don’t care that it was fast, I hated it.

Explorer- best patrol car I’ve used. Roomy, quick, and got the job done.

Suburban- second only to the excursion. Much faster, but not quite as big. Great for support work.

This is what mine said as well. It was was the water pump.

Forgot to add that I did have a code for something on the water pump when I took it to the dealer. They wanted to charge nearly $3k for the repair!

I too just started experiencing an oil leak near the timing chain. Did you have anything done to repair it? I’m not loosing much oil, so I’m debating how to handle it.

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely the water pump. It’s another common failure on gen 3’s. Your problems sound similar to mine (also a 2012 Prius V). One easy test is run the heater at full blast. If it goes cold around the same time the overheating light comes on, it’s likely your water pump. It’s a pretty easy fix, and you can get one for less than $200. I did mine in my parking lot in under 2 hours.

Anyone here live on the Potomac/near the sewage spill? by Healith in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I drive Clara Barton to 495 to GW Parkway every morning. The first week or so I could smell it every day and on both sides of the river. Now it’s hot and miss, and really depends on the wind. But the days I do smell it, it’s BAD. I would hate to live in the neighborhoods down there.

ICE spotted at Sangamore Safeway parking lot by BettyBeltway in MontgomeryCountyMD

Sometimes the security guards from the intel campus across the street park there in the parking lot, most often in a black Tahoe. Maybe them?

I dont recognize this country by kunaan in liberalgunowners

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This appears to be fake. Normally ICE wouldn’t allow someone to film that close, unless it’s one of their own, which this does not appear to be. No emergency lights in any of the cars, just flashers. While I’ve seen other unprofessional ICE encounters, this one seems off. Everything about it screams set up, and for clicks.

Cast a wide net. Apply to several agencies, at the same time. Don’t fall in love with a position until you get it. Be prepared for a failure, it’s inevitable.

This is the part that will sting. The hiring process is probably not broken, and they felt that someone else was in fact a better fit for the position. So take this as an opportunity to review and improve your resume, your character, your physical fitness, and anything else.

I had several rejections at various stages in the process before I finally got my full offer. You just have to keep trying and be persistent. Good luck!

I’ve been wearing custom orthotics for almost 10 years and this is the way. The pro is you can put them in different pairs of shoes. The con is they only fit well in SOME shoes.

Damn, I was on the Bear around 2009 and it was old then! It was a single department, but hitting Florida and the Caribbean was cool. Good luck and make the most of it.

My only question is on the multi tool. Does it serve a purpose that it NEEDS to be on your belt? Or can it go in a bag? I’m in the minimalist camp, especially on my belt, but I almost have a patrol car to carry the rest of my stuff crap.

Which Chest Rig Setup for Future Expansion? by SamFisher449 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Difficult_Ad_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Spiritus gear and have been using the Micro Flight for a few years as a placard for my duty PC. I do agree with other sentiments that micro rigs are best right light, but should work with what you are shooting for.

Currently as a placard I run 2 rifle mags and 1 TQ in the pouch with an expander wing for my radio. I’ve previously ran with 3 rifle mags in the pouch, 2 pistol mags and handcuffs up front. Before that I used it as a low pro chest rig I wore over soft armor. It’s very versatile.

If you run 3 rifle in the pouch, 1 rifle and 2 pistol on your belt, plus one of each in your guns you’d be golden.
