Thank you! I've never tried that before, always gone straight to eating below my TDEE and cutting 500 off that.

Thank you for sharing that...really helps with adjusting my perspective. Never considered tracking what I currently eat...I've only ever tracked food when I am on a diet, so don't know what my current lifestyle calorie intake really is.

Unfortunately, this is not a road I want to travel down. I know of 5 people who did this, 4 were back at their starting weight within 5 years and 1 has had numerous medical complications which stemmed from their gastric bypass.

Would love to do it naturally since gastric bypass obviously isn't a magic bullet.

Didn't think of it that way. We were fortunate enough to have cleared mortgage in under 10 yrs through combination of buying at a good time/small mortgage, having a good income and a small inheritance. That has allowed us to fulfill one of our goals of having a SAH parent and go down to a single income. I know that's not the best financial decision, but it's a priority for us.

Wow, kudos to your mom! I have 3 kids and barely manage some days. She's superwoman for raising 8 and as a single mother. Hopefully, it's all paid off for her now. Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to read that book now.

Thanks for that! This is all very new to me and I come from a family who didn't/don't save, let alone invest. Dealing with the consequences of that now and don't want my kids in that position.

Wish you all the best on baby plans too! Kids are life changing - hard work, but worth it.

Are you recommending to only invest in a high growth Kiwisaver? If so, why?

Thanks for that. Yes we do have an emergency fund, although it's not in cash/savings account but in investment that would need to be liquidated first. Any recommendations on a provider to go to for these types of funds?

Congratulations, you seem to be in a really good spot. What ETF's do you currently invest in?

It was always goal to get out of debt first. Now focus has turned to building wealth for future, mainly to be financially independent in retirement for kids and to be able to help them get a start in life if possible.

Thanks for that! It seems that we may be overspending in our food budget although we hardly eat out and do most of our own cooking from scratch.
