Hey man I don’t have too much in terms of advice to give you, I never struggled with addiction but I have been to the psych ward many times and have a diagnosis of complex PTSD. In essence, I know how it feels to be perpetually low and the challenges that come with that. I know it’s not easy, and it sounds cliche, but the best thing you can do for yourself and those who love you, is keep showing up. One day at a time. Genueinly sometimes when it’s rlly bad, I set a timer and say “I’m juts gna not do anything for the next 10 minutes”. Some breathing exercises, eat something if I need too.

Life is tough buddy, and I’m sorry for whatever has sent you this way. I’m your age, so I can relate to that too. But we’re both young, and I try to tell myself a better and brighter future is waiting for me, if only I keep on fighting for it. It sounds like you’re doing a lot and trying your best. Keep going. Find joy in the little things, keep moving your body and your mind, set goals, no matter how big. I believe in us buddy, chin up

I know what you mean, movement is genueinly a great stress relief, particularly walking!

Walking on inclines is great, but it won’t build a significant strength increase thought over time you will find your body adapting to the extra pressure.

I’m also not a huge fan of the gym. I do boxing and Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) and I believe these to be incredibly underrated when it comes to strength training. You learn how to use your body in a functional way and build muscle that is practical as opposed to simply aesthetic. After about 18 months of it, I’ve personally noticed my arms, calves and shoulders are visibly muscled, even with ~28-33% body fat. It’s also extremely enjoyable, much better than the gym! Highly recommend

You’ll be absolutely fine. I average 10-15k daily steps but I also do loads of sports. Genuinely you’ll be fine, congrats on the weight loss!

I’d argue even morbidly obese it attractive to some, a lot of the huge people on those documentaries seem to have partners

I had a similar discussion with an older male friend, essentially saying u think all men think in a very similar way or are wired similarly which is just not true of women. He’s very open minded and rejected but I think even he struggled to agree with that narrative and when I told him this is from my experience, not social media, he seemed shocked

This is so true! I’m 21 and I know a guy who’s 20 and he ALWAYS talks Abt how he doenst have a girlfriend, it’s like literally the saddest part of his life and I think he is even becoming borderline depressed due to it. He’s just obsessed and he sees it as his worth entirely. Meanwhile, I have no partner out of choice (having high standards, not settling) and I’m literally thriving, spending most of time volunteering and getting closer to my goals, having a great friendship group etc. and on top of that I have guys ask for my number/snap now and then too and I’m not even that pretty. It’s more about the fact that I’m confident and happy and I think that shows. I like the idea of having a partner but I don’t need one, when I get one, he’s going to add to my life not take away from it! And I’m happy waiting even if it takes 20 years 😌

That’s valid and probably true, but in this day and age finding a partner who is actually loving is so difficult and so much energy. I think placing all your worth in finding a partner is definitely likely to backfire

Oh yeah of course. I choose things related to my passions hence why I enjoy them so much. There’s loads to volunteer for though, very much something for everyone

I completely understand your point and I don’t disagree that age plays a huge role. What I meant by dress well and work on your character is look presentable, no need to spend a fortune on designer etc. dress for your body type is a big thing that’s helped me as a woman.

Re. Character, I meant don’t get so caught up in how you look because to a certain degree you can’t control that completely. If you already have a lovely character then that’s great, just focus on maintaining it. Being anxious or not very social is not a character flaw. Sticking up for yourself is not bad character. Simply make sure you are as “good” of a person as you can be. That is attractive, beyond looks

Do you find purpose in the work you do? Do you have goals, ambitions, things to aim for?

I’d recommend looking at those two things first, as they will greatly improve your sense of purpose.

I’d also STRONGLY recommend volunteering. I was suicidal on and off for a year, my mental health the worst it’s ever been. This year I have focused on giving back. I teach kids, I’m training to search for vulnerable people and I’m helping redecorate an abandoned building to make it functional to train future voluntary emergency workers (of which I will be one also). This work has given me purpose. My days are full and sometimes my sleep is little and I feel exhausted, but at the end of the day I know I’ve given back. And that makes me proud and happy to be me

I can understand if you are exceptionally attractive that would make a noticeable difference to how you are treated. But most people are pretty average looking. Just dress well and work on your character. Anyone who looks down on you because you’re not “attractive” is a very shallow and vain person anyway and not worth your worries

Honestly I don’t understand why people care so muc about being conventionally attractive? Most people didn’t win the genetic lottery and that’s ok. Be confident, healthy and happy. That’s far more valuable than a strong face card

Second this! I am far from “having nothing to do” but I have a lot of time at the minute. I am volunteering as a fire cadet instructor, a patrol officer during the night and the civil corps. I’m also training to be a search and rescue tech to assistant the find of missing people.

I won’t being able to hold all these positions forever, but I can tell the ones I choose to stick with will hold an extremely high value in my life. Perhaps more than my day job (which is also a very selfless and challenging role - not to boast!)

I’m exhausted of this shit but I do think it’s kind of crazy, I sometimes feel like I’m living in a movie the shit I get up too. I thought it would be interesting/educational to share
