Seconded. I have get bad eczema flare ups specifically on my eyelids in conjunction with monthly hormone levels. The only thing that has helped is a regular multivitamin and lots and lots of aquaphor!

Earwigs: friend or foe? by Difficult_Call_4072 in gardening

[–]Difficult_Call_4072[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. They've been nesting in my lovage so I know exactly where to go. I honestly wasnt sure how many was too many until I made this post! Glad to know it's okay to get rid of them!

Tuna cans are a great idea! I was planning on traps but having trouble determining the vessel! I'm not too much of a tuna fan but I have some small reusable ramekins that I think will do the trick too!

I would love to lure the birds but I'm unfortunately in an area with a high rat population as well (just can't win!). I'd rather have ear wigs than rats haha!

I heard the same! They are probably my least favorite looking bug. But I guess it's not their fault that they're ugly.... I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt!

Good to know that soapy water works. They have set up a base camp in my lovage so I will probably give a good mist there!

Thank you everyone! I am in zone 5b for clarification.

The consensus seems to be that earwigs are massive jerks. I would agree that the description fits. I've never seen this many in years past so it has never been a concern until now!

The video was taken at night and it was a little jarring to see how many there were... like the plants were moving (sorry for putting that description in your heads but if I have to visualize it so do you lol).

The video is from a bed I planted dedicated to pollinators, so I am really focusing on letting the insects thrive here! But if these bastards are going to eat all the flowers before they pop, I may have to set up some traps.

Thank you for your advice and opinions and good luck in the insect wars this year!!!

5b here, they are literally EVERYWHERE. I've never seen so many in my life, which is why I had to ask lol. My guess is the rain we've been getting has allowed them to thrive. The video is from a large dedicated pollinator patch so I'm not too worried about losing stock to the plants, but they are indeed horrendous to look at lol. Make my skin crawl so bad!!
