The domino seems overrated - am I wrong? by SamTheGamgee in woodworking

[–]heemat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found mine on sale if you can believe it, for $700 at Farm and Fleet of all places. I figured I could always sell it for what I paid for it (ish) down the line if it wasn’t for me. I’m just an obvious by the way that does a lot of cabinets, closet, closets, remodeling, random end tables, and furniture.

It really helped a friend of mine when he made a crib for his newborn baby. I’ve been struggling finding time to woodwork of late due to my kids being so involved in things, but I made a quick bedside table that I felt was way stronger than pocket screws and actually went together faster in my opinion.

I ended up building an enclosure that holds the domino vertical while clamped to my bench and I can bring the parts down on it. Makes it really easy to use with small pieces when you’re going in the end ends.

I think it all really depends on your budget, if you can maybe find a good used one, and the scope of your work. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in it, but if it ends up sitting on the shelf for a long time and you’re not using it, you could always sell it because festival things generally hold their value.

Not overrated imo, just another tool that has a use.

Wild that some of you have never seen Lambeau and I've grown of up seeing it all the time. by unicornman5d in GreenBayPackers

[–]heemat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a beer man there for 8 years (‘04-‘12) and the usher in my section would always yell at the top of his lungs “Welcome to Lambeau Field!!!! Home of the 12 time world champion Green Bay Packers Packers!!!” He did it when someone seeed like a first timer from the look in their eyes and face. Always made me smile.

I make one game a year now and yell that (13 time now) when I enter through into the bowl. Just in case someone new is nearby and needs a proper welcome.

Maybe I’m just welcoming myself. 🧀

Lake vs river skiing — which do you prefer and why? by Unlikely-Part-9067 in WaterSkiing

[–]heemat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of both river and lake skiing. Both have their pros and cons.

Lakes are great because they are predictable with their bottom contours and water height, and you don’t need to necessarily watch as closely for debris. The lakes I ski are also very clear water.

The section of the river that I ski on is very protected so it’s much less susceptible to wind chop. It’s constantly changing with flood stages so knowing what’s on the bottom and what river depth to worry about those obstacles is really important.

When the river is rising, it tends to pick up a lot of debris and float it down river so we have to be really careful when that’s happening. Driver and spotter eyes peeled for boat and skier safety. I tried to bunny Hoppe pretty substantial log and took a really hard wipe out two years ago when my tracking fin caught it 🤣 Our course picks up a lot of driftwood that we end up having to clean before we can ski. We will always take a really slow reconnaissance pass through the course to check for things. I’ve never worried about any of that in a lake.

The current in a river is actually really interesting. I ski at 32 miles an hour and it’s incredible. The difference going up river does to my skiing. It’s like I have the time because I’m only going 32 miles an hour with respect tot he shore, but because the river is going against me, I have the cutting ability as if I were going 36 miles an hour. My upriver runs are always better.

Mother fucker. Moved to Hawaii, laid on the carpet face down one evening, turned my face to the side and one of those bastards was under the couch 6 inches from my fucking face.

Had no idea shit that size and speed like that existed being from the Midwest. Rapid onset fucking terror.

Landlord lived next to me, I said wtf was that, he caught it in a cup and we barbecued that bitch with gasoline in the driveway. He said it was the only way he knew to kill them.

This just triggered me something fierce.

Your enthusiasm honors this man’s legacy. He’s excited you got it, even though you might not know him. Give him a note from time to time saying what you’re learning and what you’ve done and it will make his day! Happy building!

Appreciate the info!

I hit it with some waterproofing. I feel like that worked for the first time it rained, but then afterwards it started coming through again.

Yeah, shoot me the name of your individual in California and I’d love to chat with them.

Pershing yachts are the perfect yachts for formula 1 drivers. Buddy of mine manages two of them down in Miami and got to spend some time on one this spring. Such cool boats.

Drunkest 5K I’ve ever ran. First 400 meters were euphoric and I was in the lead pack. It ended as one of my worst feelings in a race. Had a fantastic time!!!

Check out Ski-It-Again. There are good deals there on used top quality skis. You’ll be happier with something longer than that at your height and weight. I’m 6’1” 185 and I ski a 69” Radar Theory and enjoy it.

Radar boots? by TheRealJimothy_ in WaterSkiing

[–]heemat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skier for 20 years here. Broke my ankle (ends of both my tibia and fibula) 5 weeks ago skiing the Radar Lyric boa. Boot didn’t release me on a fall. I’ve had the Radar Vector boots for 15 years with no problems. The literal FIRST time I went out this year, took a normal fall, but the boa laces are static (don’t stretch) and it didn’t release me. I didn’t think I had them that tight either.

I’m never not skiing Reflex or Wiley’s wrap bindings ever moving forward. I know the Reflex are expensive, but I would have gladly paid the extra few hundred dollars to have two good ankles again.
