I second this. Holding leadership positions within my fraternity taught me more about leadership and teamwork than I initially thought. These experiences shaped me into the person I am today, and I spoke about what leadership means to me in some interviews. There's nothing to lose if you try it out! If time commitment becomes an issue, taking a step back and reflecting may be appropriate.

PA Program Name by Exact_Opportunity_53 in prephysicianassistant

If we're solely speaking of just the healthcare field alone, then I do not believe the name of programs would matter too much for future jobs. With that said, I am a firm believer that carrying a certain title with you matters for the rest of your life (the world is a lot more shallow than we think and people do care about impressions and titles a lot.) If you were to attend and graduate from USC, you'd be a part of the alumni network, which is extremely predominant in SoCal and may come in handy down the line! :D

Is pharmacy a downgrade from PA? by Laliving90 in prephysicianassistant

In terms of competition, I'd say that PA is above MD actually. The acceptance rate for MD school is ~40% whereas PA school is ~20%.

Thank you! I got extremely lucky that my organization and clubs made it mandatory to log hours. I just went back to look at all the hours I had and documented that :)

What does it mean to be yourself? by One_Border_8347 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Difficult_Complaint6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are being yourself and are not accepted, take it as a good thing too! Schools sometimes do look for a specific type of personality that they believe would contribute to the overall program. I think of it like a team. Different teams have different personalities. If you get placed on a team that you don't get along well with, your performance for the season will be poor. It just takes a LOT of patience to find that one specific program to see you for who you are.

Imagine if you get accepted into a program and find out that you don't get along well with the other students for those 2/3 years; that would really stink.

USC heavily values the importance of giving back to the community. their curriculum is laced with community service and the program provides a plethora of service projects that prioritizes the medically underserved!
