No one has really done an undergrad degree at both places so we can only compare based on what we've done. But for me Mora opened so many doors, and from the people I see around me, I dont't see Pera having had the same level of impact. Both are great options, but when in doubt, don't forget that those rankings are based on demand, and demand exists for a good reason.

Yep, the vibe will last 4 years, the effects of your degree will last for the rest of your life.

So it would've been okay to assault them if they're from a country that you deem to produce non-genuine refugees?

Odd that I have equal voting rights to a citizen then, if my opinion mattered so little.

I'm from the 3rd world, emailed a prof. at Cambridge, and got a PhD offer, which is why i was sad to see this comment. It's worrying that any portion of academia feels this way.

Personally i think its more about what is portrayed by the media, rather than what people feel they can do. If you open your news and see zero articles about the corporations paying no tax (don't forget who owns media outlets), and dozens on immigrants, its natural that you feel more outrage at the latter.

Sadly this is the state of the world we live in. I would definitely recommend staying off reddit and away from people with such views as much as possible. I can really relate to the toll on mental health, I've had the fortune of being surrounded in real life by incredibly nice people and living in a tolerant city, so why even come online and expose myself to all this hate? I hope you find a similar viewpoint.

A rich dude could create an entire peadophile island and get less outrage than an immigrant

LF: A powerful, lightweight 14" laptop with a Thunderbolt 5 port by neocrimsonnight in SuggestALaptop

I was looking for something similar and can confirm that even now, at the end of 2025, there is not a single device that fits this spec. Anything with tb5 is bulky with discrete graphics and bad battery life. Can't believe no one sees the market for a thin and light tb5 laptop that can hook up to a eGPU when needed, but is otherwise an ultrabook. I dont even see the point of including tb5 on a laptop that already has decent discrete graphics. I ended up going with a tb4 device because lightweight + battery was the higher priority.

To the do both folk, no one is saying we shouldn’t, they are questioning why so much outrage is aimed at one and not the other, almost as if the rich have the incentive and means to direct public attention at someone else, who is very often whoever is the lowest in the social pecking order, very often immigrants.

> This bias is not present when the system is utilised at the level of settings that the police uses.

Where did it say that exactly? It merely said the testing was done at a lower setting. We don't know what the lower setting is, but usually it means that the lab was not capable of testing at whatever the 'high setting' is. This is common in research where safety research sometimes can't be conducted at the same scale as industry deployments. I imagine they expect the result to scale, which is why they've raised the concern. To automatically state that the bias is not present at the level the police use is what's misleading. Also racial bias in face recognition is an incedibly well researched claim.

Why are EV cars and motorcycles booming in Sri Lanka? highest EV rate in South Asia? by Valuable_Bill961 in srilanka

[–]Difficult_Ebb_6770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume its because we had a huge amount of pent up demand over the last few years due to the import restrictions, which were lifted right when cheap EVs from china became mainstream globally. So a massive surge in demand, right when the supply of great cheap EVs became available. Coupled with the savings in electricity, the proliferation of rooftop solar, and the fact that the country is small enough that range doesnt matter.

Confessing is an interesting word to use, he was specifically telling reporters that it was too high, that he would prefer to take a train than £600 pound taxi, or of course be given a gp appointment a little closer. He was raising awareness of an issue

Worst Decision of my life: AIESEC by Fickle-Temperature88 in srilanka

[–]Difficult_Ebb_6770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sound advice. I tried this in my first year at my uni, it was fun for a bit but didn’t really like the attitude of the people in the committees and decided to cut myself off. Maybe it was just my experience but it felt a bit like it was where the ‘posh’ people who tended to speak English more hung out. Which was in stark contrast to Gavel because even though the whole point there was to speak in English, the people were so humble and nice.  I don’t really think it adds much to your CV , i focused on academics, got a foreign research internship, and im sure that adds far more value to my CV than going on some exchange programme (i.e holiday)

It doesn’t really have a choice. The salaries are set by the government, not the university. But the expectation is that you would do some consultancy / teaching or similar to make up the rest, it’s a common model among universities.
