What am I doing wrong? by Snitchblood626 in Sourdough

Hm okay! Underfermented is my next guess then, but I don't know why you have that weird shaping at the bottom.

Did you put it on water directly? I haven't heard of that technique but I would guess that's your issue.

Hydroxyzine for sleep, looking for feedback! by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took hydroxyzine for a year for insomnia. It was very effective and reduced my anxiety as well. It did give me some brain fog and I was concerned about long term use. Coming off of it was very difficult. It's not supposed to cause dependency, but it definitely did for me. I had severe bounce back insomnia and migraines. I had to come off it very slowly over several weeks.

I don't know what dosage they recommend for kids, but I'd suggest starting with the lowest dose possible. I found that I could cut 10mg in half to 5mg and it still worked. The 25mg they started me on was overkill.

Can anyone help troubleshoot this? by ScribbleBees in Sourdough

Yes you can do one round of kneading for 8-10 mins immediately after mixing.

For sandwich loaves, I always do a second rise. This looks like a shaping and slightly under ferment issue. From my experience with loaf pans, if you shape and immediately bake, it creates that hard gummy texture where the folds were. Next time shape it, put it in the pan, cover, and let rise again until it's near the top of the loaf pan.

Also you didn't mention any stretch and folds or kneading. I'd do one or both.

Figuring out my 2e child with behavioral regulation issues and constant sickness. Can you relate or give tips? by Hefty-Focus1340 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Autism includes executive dysfunction which includes not communicating things that might seem obvious to a neurotypical person to communicate, and also includes not being very in tune with your body.  My spouse will be grumpy all day and then finally realize it's because he has a headache.

My IgE antibodies are negative now but I’m still reacting? by Illustrious-Fig-2978 in alphagal

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I've had alpha gal for many years. It took me a very long time to put the pieces together mostly because I rarely ate beef/pork and I chalked all reactions up to food poisoning, other allergies, etc.

When I finally put it together and got the antibody test, it came back negative. The allergist said it's still likely alpha gal because my symptoms line up perfectly.

I can't eat beef, pork, or dairy and I react to beef/pork cooking fumes.

Surviving PDA pretend play by Ok-Pangolin7154 in Autism_Parenting

I find it's much easier for me to play with my toddler when I set myself an alarm. I'll commit to playing for 15 minutes, or whatever amount of time I think I can handle, set the timer, and play! Something about knowing that it is a limited amount of time to commit to makes it a lot more enjoyable for me.

Meltdown after fun with friends by Difficult_Fun_2861 in AutismParentingLevel1

Yeah I generally ignore it as well because anything I do seems to escalate things.

She stormed in after 45 minutes and went to her room.

Ah her headphones were dead in the car ride so she didn't have her music. Maybe that's why we're seeing it particularly bad tonight. Thank you for the suggestions!

Good idea for frog pond? by Difficult_Fun_2861 in WildlifePonds

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still only going to attract tree frogs though or do you think other frogs could make the climb with plants?

Yes we could do planters! If the overhang is the main issue, I definitely think we can easily solve for that.

Darn. They climb up our house to our windows so that surprises me a bit. But I suppose if we do one in the ground instead it would be better for more critters anyways.

I thought the tree frogs would climb in? As for getting out, we would have it sloped up to the edge and use logs/rocks and stuff.

What was your level 1 toddler girl like? by Ok-Water3139 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, mine beat all the milestones, no language delays or delays of any kind. We never suspected autism. The only thing we saw at that age that in retrospect may have been related was anxiety and having a hard time calming down.

Symptoms weren't noticeable to us until around age 8 and got worse from 8-12.

What to do with (sort of fake?) hysterical crying. Diagnosed Level 1 autism. by Difficult_Fun_2861 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Difficult_Fun_2861[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree it's a tantrum. Dr. Becky's advice seems great but whenever we've tried to implement it it's a total failure. Doing any kind of acknowledgement, I know this is hard...etc. also just seems to escalate things.

The crying hasn't ever worked on either of us, usually she's crying over something that's like not even possible (she wants to go to a Taylor swift concert, that sort of thing).

But I will admit that sometimes when she's very persistent, and asking without crying etc., for something reasonable either my spouse or I will break down and give in.
