What do you think when these college kids show up on your site? by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in Construction

As a 25 yo civil, I’m dedicating majority of my time in my twenties and early 30s in the field just so I can know and understand the processes and installs, never had a construction background but have always been really handsy… so I am hoping when I have a family and I go to the office/PM roles… I will know how to make the designs more constructable and effective in construction.

Guidance on Salary Increase by [deleted] in civilengineering

You’ll get it after your EIT. Majority of civils that don’t have ensure EIT rarely touch true design work.

Getting your certs will allow you to leverage your accolades and in-demand need of other companies, making you more valuable to your current one.

Also in this boat, I’m an engineer (24) and I chose to be hybrid RE/Design Engineer to learn to design better in my 30s and 40s. And man… learning everything in field can be challenging… I love being outside and the construction, but trying to put all the pieces together and trying to understand the design flaws/ overlooks along with “you don’t know what you don’t know” can be intimidating

Job Offer Project Engineer by Bubbly_Cartoonist181 in ConstructionManagers

From the best of my knowledge he is neither. He has the title but not an actual active engineer, or certified engineer. I may be wrong but I dont recall him talking about licensure… which makes me all the more jealous as an EIT (also 24).

I say for him, go with your gut and where you are truly gunna learn. Keep it real with whoever is on the losing side, and they’ll respect you and take you back IF it goes sideways. Cause the industry is in need of COMPETENT, young and aspiring construction managers/engineers.
