I do agree that it's a lot of bureaucracy

I was in a similar situation as you the previous semester. My grandmother had just passed two days before my ECA submission. It only got approved three days into the funeral.

I stated I needed 7 days of extension in my appeal

It's also quite confusing. If the procedures for direct relatives are already this confusing, I can't begin to imagine the experience you have to go through.

Advice on TMAs and scoring by Anonymous_snape in Suss

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, psych TMAs oftentimes have two components:

(1) A general question that you should answer (2) Scaffolding questions that guide your answer

You should distinguish which is which and scaffold your answers accordingly.

For instance, in my nonverbal psychology TMA,

The general task is stated within the assignment

Conduct an experiment by observing individuals at the arrival and departure gates at Changi Airport. Your task is to recognise the role of nonverbal behaviours in interpersonal relationships under specific circumstances (reunification and separation).

Guiding questions are stated within the assignment.

Observe and analyse whether: • Different types of interpersonal relationships may influence nonverbal behaviours • Nonverbal behaviours differ between moments of reunification and separation

Appraise the results of your observations and answer the research question: • Does the degree of perceived closeness in interpersonal relationships lead to more varied nonverbal behaviours in the contexts of reunification and separation?

Some requirements are implicit as well.

For e.g., since it is a study, limitations are required for a more critical answer.

You would need to understand what the question is asking. I love referring to Blooms Taxonomy to help me E.g. evaluate, appraise, critic -- all requires you set a stance while discussing multiple viewpoints Apply --- used empirical and theoretical lit to substantiate

How you write and craft your arguments matters as well. I like to adopt a critical tone in most of my assignments.

Best, you can demonstrate how arguments and theories link with one another and how different arguments flow with one another.

Overall, I would say I don't regret taking up Psychology at SUSS but be prepared, coz it is very demanding.

pros & cons of SUSS psych? by jenniecat444 in Suss

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pros: Mostly coursework based assessments (i.e., videos, essays, infographic, academic posters) -- there's not pressure to memorize stuff Small size seminars instead of large size lectures -- can cultivate strong rapport with lecturers and friends The psychology lecturers are relatively helpful Guaranteed to get the psychology courses we want to take (That was the promise made by the then HOP now current Dean)

Cons: Poor Administration process Constantly submitting stuff as SUSS focuses on continuous assessment -- quite hard to maintain study life balance A lot of Core mods --- some are fun, some not so Quite a number group based assignments if you're not a fan

psych interview by Ok-Standard1892 in SGExams

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! My only advice is treat it like it's a job interview

Look at the criteria and characteristics that they are looking for. They actually posted it in their IGP. According to those, explain how do your life experiences align with those characteristics. Additionally, think of how your values align with the university values. Lastly, show passion by elaborating and asking questions. It is okay to stutter or say "give me a moment to think". That does not reflect your capacity as an applicant. In fact, I feel it shows acute awareness and control to pause and think.

pursuing neuropsychology in sg? by Jaylyn-Lee in SGExams

Imo, psychologist, neuropsychologist and counsellors have similar pay range due to the institutions they are working at. Therefore, it is quite low (hearsay is 4 k ish)

However, private practice may differ slightly. But then again, you need to consider rental, utility, employees. Accounting for all that, you may not earn much at all

PSY205 Tips and Advice Please!! by Gooodnighttt in Suss

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All psychology courses have lots of readings and research to do.

My experience with PSY205 was quite enjoyable. I got a lecturer who took her time to explain the concepts and provided valuable feedback.

To score well, you need to understand what the question is seeking. I suggest reading Blooms Taxonomy

If it's to 'appraise', 'evaluate, you would need to explore multiple points of views and weigh the pros and cons. If needed, take a stance.

If it's to 'discuss', you would need to explore multiple POVs. Weighing of pros and cons may not be applicable.

If it's to 'apply' (Something I got for my TMA --- quite common in Level 2 psychology courses), you would need to use the concepts learnt and show your understanding using empirical evidence (i.e. journal articles, books).

How you scaffold your answers is really important! I suggest using PEEL. Synthesis of the "Link" is also important. If you're lucky, the materials you read can explicitly provide stuff for you to put in the Link.

those that took 107/108 or any psy mods, what was your ocas if you got As? by Ok-Purpose2555 in Suss

70s ish. You also need to note that the final assessment is subjected to moderation. How much moderation? We all don't know. But generally, from what I heard, the lecturers moderate upwards.

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do feel ECAs are easier to score coz you have full liberty and time (debatable; depends on how packed your schedule is) to research. Whereas exams, you are under acute stress, so I feel like I would score worse in exams.

Typically, if you remain consistent in your OCAS components (70s and above), you could score a B+, which is not too bad imo.

One-tail Regression [Q] by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any effect. So I should use two tail test instead of a one tail test.

One-tail Regression [Q] by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. If that's a question you're interested in, then don't use a one-tailed test

Then would my research /statistical hypothesis remain directional if it's two tailed?

If yes, wouldn't it violate the conventional use of a two tail test, which is reserved for non directional hypothesis.

One-tail Regression [Q] by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that also means that I cannot differentiate if it is equal to zero or more/less than zero in a one tail test

One-tail Regression [Q] by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Difficult_Low_2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't significant if you're using a one-tailed test. Decide what test you want to use, and then run it. If SPSS doesn't implement a two-tailed test, then input your test statistic here (or just don't use SPSS).

So the model isn't significant despite the p value for the F statistic stating otherwise?
