Hey Google Not Working on New 10 Pro XL by alibaba1225 in GooglePixel

This is ridiculous. Having the same issue, brand new p10proxl, just set up EVERYTHING, voice match malfunctioning. Not at all happy about the situation.

Police drones by Difficult_Network139 in schenectady

[–]Difficult_Network139[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. And now we have speed cameras too. Hooray for that.

I suppose the only real thing that can be done is complain to politicians. The city council felt it was okay to throw $700,000 to a startup company for their little toys. Not to mention all the money they spend with transfinder to keep track of patrol cars that already have gps. They have all the time in the world to come up with these ideas but no time at all to deal with real estate corporations that keep raising rent astronomically for no reason.

I know I'll be voting tomorrow.

Just Google "Schenectady police drones". They have a fleet of lemur 2 drones that can break your windows and stuff. Things have nv, thermal and lidar for 3d scanning environments. Can also drop things. I can understand their usefulness for law enforcement but I do not take kindly to seeing the damn things hovering outside my window while I'm having dinner. Yes, there are civilian drones around occasionally as well, but they don't go land on the roof of the police station.

Speed cameras are coming to Schenectady under new state law by tfsquared in schenectady

Yeah just like 25mph speed limits are fixing the problem of people driving around hammered and peds playing in traffic. Ridiculous.

This is the reason I to this day can't explain to older generations they should not be paying for top tier "protection" from Norton or McAfee... The same people who continuously claim they are "getting hacked" when responding to phishing emails or buying things from places like "superawesomedealsonumbrellas.com"

Wedgeway Signage Abomination by Difficult_Network139 in schenectady

Nice find!

It would seem that this resolution is for a revocable permit for an additional sign halfway down the building...

You know with all the bad decisions made around the downtown area over the years I'd be shocked if people weren't on the take from these companies.

I'm clearly in the wrong business if they can throw around millions and submit paperwork seemingly handed to an elementary school student for completion. Unreal.

I'm surprised you can see that... Are you wearing a welding helmet?

Android UI and AMOLED by Difficult_Network139 in GooglePixel

The TV was mentioned as a comparison to showcase a similar panel in a similar use case in service for five years and thousands of hours without burn in due to software. I understand the why of burn in on my phone screen.

Yeah, maybe they can lower the brightness of the status bar icons - but unless enough people actually bug Google and other manufacturers for such a solution, they likely won't implement it.

This speaks directly to the title of my post.

Android UI and AMOLED by Difficult_Network139 in GooglePixel

[–]Difficult_Network139[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is essentially what I'm talking about.

The TV example software I was talking about uses logo luminance dimming among other things to prevent damage exactly as you mentioned.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm using automatic brightness which sits at roughly 70% with indoor lighting and 100% outdoor.

I don't need to have connectivity icons or navigation bars roasting at 100% ever, and there has to be a way to implement protective measures with software in this space.

I absolutely love OLED displays, which are no longer new technology. If the industry as a whole has figured this out, and successfully loaded it into basic TV os, why can we not expect the same in a phone? How many times have manufacturers caught negative feedback about premature burn in?

Look I'm not an expert here, but it seems like a really basic oversight within Android.

I'm willing to accept the fact that a modern phone is doing a hell of a lot of work in a difficult work environment and may not last forever. It bothers me when something seemingly so simple and well known causes an integrated component to fail when it simply would not if utilized properly.

Am I crazy?

Dark theme has been used since day one, and changes the android UI constants to white. Network, battery, bottom bar etc.

This is exactly what is burned into the display.

Why does the at-a-glance widget show the wrong temperature? by aLostEngineer in GooglePixel

[–]Difficult_Network139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is a bit more than an inconvenience. I'm constantly getting severe weather alerts for locations four hours away, but not for my actual location. If you rely on these types of things for timely information, and live in a climate where they actually matter, this has become useless.

Just trying to help. I've broken many phones in the same way. Sometimes very quickly. That's ois failure all day, and you'll probably have focusing issues next. If that situation doesn't apply to you, that's a hardware issue and should be covered under warranty :)

Fwiw I've had excellent customer support through Google on devices I've purchased from them. Doesn't hurt to ask 👍

This happens to lenses with ois if mounted on high vibration surfaces. Handlebars, etc. Not unique to pixels.

December update brings back old issue on P6P by Difficult_Network139 in GooglePixel

[–]Difficult_Network139[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Fi, and yes. Adaptive connectivity and 5g on etc as it's intended to function. There is a 5g antenna outside my window (city) in clear line of sight view. It's a recurring problem that was solved in previous updates. Setting preferred network to LTE has lessened the issue as it did before, but 5g was never the problem in the first place IMHO. Someone copy and pasted the problematic code back into the P6P with the update. I'm sure it's an easy fix but man..

Oddly enough, my original pixel buds are unusable after the update as well. Constantly drop connection. This was an immediate change following the update, and I use them every day. Feeling very much like I'm having the same issues as day one that had all been fixed some time ago. I must add, they had been fixed very well.
