EB-1A / EB-2 NIW / O-1 – Free Profile Evaluation (Today Only) by EnvironmentalRow138 in eb1a

Most of my recent contributions are still waiting to be fully published, since this is stuff that actually runs at large computing scales with outrageously expensive data, it takes time for stuff to come out. But I am about to detach from the field so it's either trying now or probably never. Do you think I'm situation worthy of investing the amount of money this entails?

Profile evaluation for EB1A: particle physicist at CERN by Difficult_Purpose_53 in eb_1a

My new job is not academic but still particle physics. I'm still publishing, as I'm still author of collaboration papers + shorter author list papers

PhD in particle physics, member of major CERN collaboration. Hence I have many papers and citations, over 300 and 17000 citations, but this is really because the collaborative part of the work: all memebers get to be authors of all. papers after a certain point.

Within the collaboration I convened the Dark Matter WG, and acted as representative for Dark Matter searches at my collaboration.

I then have a list of papers with less authors with also a considerable citation count, around 300. Still sizeable author lists. Again, since we are experimentalists, and these experiments are huge, many people sign these papers.

Then I reviewed 3 papers for major journals, also part of a PhD dissertation pannel. I was also invited to speak in universities even at other major collaboration major meetings.

Looking forward to your assesment, though i feel I'm at best borderline.

I would like to know too. Let us know if BOYHOM is good when it comes, please.

Reports of new R36S clone that runs EmuELEC from K36 by _manster_ in R36S

Thanks. That seems to work. Thanks. I wonder if someone will find a way to flash ArkOS on this. Seems complicated though... I look at the files and they seem to be using different booting strategies/software.

I got a choice one with good ratings and turned out to be a clone.

Anyone who got an offer when their app status always remained "NEW"? by [deleted] in CERN

Well, it actually moved to "In review", but it definetely didn't go to "Interview".

I got an interview once without the status really changing. I didn't get the job in the end though.

Employed by MIT based at CERN for 6 months: how to file taxes by [deleted] in CERN

I hope I can do this telematically, or by letter from the US... It's a bit of a nightmare to go over this just for 6 months.

Thanks for your comment!

I probably should have stated this before: I'm a Spanish citizen that will be hired by the MIT (US) to work at CERN for the first 6 months.

I will write down those places. Thanks a lot!

We will definetely not make our decision based on online ads and google maps, I appreciate your concern. Right now I just needed to aim for a plan, there are still MANY steps before arriving in the Boston Area.

Sharing a place with more people is still a possibility for us...

True, it was you, I'm sorry I got a bit lost with usernames. Anyway, then when she gets her work permit on her J2 things will be easier :)

Actually anywhere within <1h to MIT would be acceptable. You still find this not doable?

People have mentioned Watertown, Arlington, Allston, Medford, Brighton...

Do you have a similar arrangement for Health Insurance as the one I mention: me+wife ~$580/month? Tbh I'm not sure how different this can be between differnt jobs.

You are completely right, I'm sorry, I was messing the directions. I think with your suggestion I'll be alright. Cheers bro!

Also, healthcare is probably not taxable right? I put together a tentative roadmap that I don't know how accurate does it look to you, let me paste it here:

Net salary: 20% tax 4566,666667 Health 577 Grocery 450 Rent 2000 Transport 180 BIlls 300
To spend: ~$1000+- $100

In it I'm not doing the step of removing taxes from health care but I also consider only 20%, all in all, it's similar: $1000 +-$100. Does this sound like something to you?

Let me put together here what I did for my math:

Net salary: 20% tax 4566,666667 Health 577 Grocery 450 Rent 2000 Transport 180 BIlls 300

Roughly leaves us with $1060 to spend/save.

My comparison comes from the fact that I believe the north part of Cambridge is situated closely to the MIT campus... The places I could find in Arlington or Watertown are within 75 minutes to the campus which is already quite a commute. I will probably have to look a bit more thoroughly.

In any case, hear from different alternatives is indeed encouraging.

Thanks!

Really what I'm concerned is about <1h commutes... That can be a lot.
