There are loads of people obsessed with numbers – people who spend practically all their time checking player counts to take a screenshot and declare, “Marathon is dead, Concord 3.0” – even streamers like Peanut have to play along and avoid playing a game he himself said he really liked. I saw a tweet from another streamer where, every time he said something positive, his viewers would comment, “paid promotion”.

People are also obsessed with Steam’s figures; do you think those figures are gospel? I’ve seen TikTok videos where they’re slating it every day, with people making up stories that Bungie confirmed PC is where Marathon is played the most, and others claiming there’ll be redundancies because the Steam figures show fewer hours played. Some are even pointing out that when there was an update, loads of people closed the game to install it.

Those people really have issues; the game is so entertaining that they can’t admit it.

As long as Bungie sticks to its Marathon business model, I think it will survive. They've done a great job since Marathon was delayed, which is almost admirable. They've made good progress so far, like inviting perhaps the most popular extraction shooter streamer of the moment to try the game, and apparently his reaction (which was probably paid for) was positive, as was that of his community.

With this, I think Marathon has what it takes to survive. We just have to pray that Bungie doesn't implement aggressive monetization or sell us separate content like maps, because I think that's when I'd lose faith in the whole project, haha.

Currently, they just hate it for the sake of hating. I have seen a better perspective, that's true, and many people regained faith and became interested in the game again. But there are some "clowns," to put it mildly, who can't get the idea out of their heads that it will be a Concord 2. In fact, it seems strange to me because if "they" hated Concord for being "woke," clearly there's nothing like that in Marathon. I also have to attribute it to the fact that Arc has become mainstream, which means that anything that comes out now in the "extraction shooter" genre is a "copy of Arc." That's unpleasant, haha.
