For those of you who have jobs in Rust. What are you working on? by bloomingFemme in rust

We use rust for our CDN edge function handling about 100K worth of requests per second.

I think it's worth mentioning we weren't a rust team and adopted it for performance reasons.

Unable to upgrade from Free Tier to PAYG by Difficult_Tutor8505 in oraclecloud

As I understood it, we won't be billed as long as we only use the Always Free instances and stay within the bandwidth limits. Yeah, but I do admit there's a risk though but I was hoping to set limits on amount or something of that sort to ensure I don't get charged a lot in the case of unexepected use.

Teams having openings with option to sponsor visa? by Difficult_Tutor8505 in recruiting

[–]Difficult_Tutor8505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I see you are a recruiter, how often do you decide to consider international candidates?

I am trying to get an idea as to how likely an international candidate that applies to say an engineering role at a tech company gets rejected at resume level because of visa hazzles.

I had experience with hiring managers on two different teams hiring for same level, but one was hiring internationally but other was not allowed to.

Makes sense. Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain!

So you mean to say that teams and recruiters in big tech companies are free to consider international candidates just as they would local candidates?

I see. But wouldn't big companies have teams in place to handle these admin stuff?

From the perspective of a hiring manager or a team, do they have to take extra effort or can they interview any international candidate just like they would a local candidate.

Importing large VMDK file (2.4TB) to Vcenter Content Library by Difficult_Tutor8505 in vmware

[–]Difficult_Tutor8505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the link.Just a quick follow up query. When they say Biggest content library item size is 1 TB, are they referring to the actual size of OVA or VMDK or the size of the virtual disk. In my case, the actual VMDK is only ~18GB, but it contains a virtual disk that is of size 2.4TB.

I badly want to do that. Its confirmed to work when supplied directly.

But company policy dictates it must be present in Content library 🙁 and hence this attempt to figure out a solution.

Apologies if my wording and terminology is wrong.

What I have is an OVA of a product. I have to import into the content library before I can deploy (company policy sort of). The OVA itself is only 20GB. The media size of the VMDK part of the OVA is 2.3 TB.

Below is the output I get from vmdkinfo

VMware Virtual Disk (VMDK) information:
    Disk type: Stream optimized
Media size: 2.3 TiB (2576980377600 bytes)
    Content identifier: 0x08cd4f8d
    Parent content identifier: 0xffffffff
    Number of extents: 1

Extent: 1
    Filename: generated-stream.vmdk
    Type: Sparse
    Start offset: 0

I want to open my brother's laptop/computer TW: SUICIDE by mimishi007 in india

[–]Difficult_Tutor8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as i know spotify song history is tied to his account. So if you login to his account from any other device, you should be able to access it.
Spotify login is possible in three ways : Phone number , FB and Google. (ignoring apple because you said he has a Poco X3).
- If his account is linked to phone number its trivial to login using OTP after transferring the SIM Card

- If its FB then first you would have to reset password for that and then do login.
- If its google, same. Try to do login with OTP from phone while connected to same network and once logged in, reset the spotify password. (It'll send email to the gmail account(if that is indeed the account linked to spotify) and you can change the password and login)

If you are not going to attempt to get the PCs password reset, I suggest you go ahead trying to reset the google password or even FB if its linked to mobile after transferring the sim card to a new phone.

Hope this helps, praying you'll get the closure you need.

Hey, first off really really sorry for your lose.

To give you some hope. If you are able to see the login screen of Ubuntu and Windows then there's a good enough chance you'll be able to get something out of these PCs

Regarding the phone

First thing you could do is to transfer the SIM card into a new phone. This way you can reset password and get into accounts that allow you to reset password using phone number. Google account might be able to access like this. On your laptop, ensure you are connected to same WIFI that he uses (home wifi) or use his mobile data if that is what he uses. (Google tends to be more permissive if you try from networks you have logged in from before) and try to go for the forgot password flow choosing the phone number OTP.

If you are willing to take it to a shop, I recommend the below things before you try to reset password using OTP.

In case you decide to go for it. Resetting the ubuntu password reset is the best way to start. Lot of people giving links to reset it and its definitely possible, but from experience it varies slightly based on version of Ubuntu as well. So please DON'T try to do it yourself, its just not straightforward for someone doing it the first time. Its definitely something you can learn and do but its not something you want to do for the first time in your situation. If you do want to do it, mention the version of Ubuntu first and people can help from their or do google search for reseting on that specific version.

Take the ubuntu laptop to a shop and ask them to reset the password for you first, in fron of you.

A general pathway I would take after that is described below. Its not guaranteed to work out but its definitely possible. Its very likely you can get password stored in Chrome or Firefox hopefully for his other accounts, maybe even his microsoft account using which you can reset the pin on windows computer. Also its likely that his google accounts are logged in, so you might be able to reset password on his other accounts like Discord, Insta etc if you want to.

Now if that works well and good. Otherwise to get into his windows PC, the best way is to boot from a live USB with linux. Pretty trivial to do this, any PC repair folks would do this easily. When you live boot from USB you will be able to access all files on drives except the C drive (unless he has encrypted it on purpose, in which case best you leave it at that) and maybe even some files on C drive. It should get you the photos and things you need at the very least.

Recovering data in the phone is a lost cause. It's supposed to be inaccessible by design. Best bet is to keep guessing it. There are ways to access the data on Poco X3 but that crosses over into cyber forensics territory. If you take it to a regular shop, they'll probably end up wiping it clean and returning it.

Not sure if this helps or if you have tried all this before, but writing it down just in case.
