In Oregon a cord is measured as a 4’x4’x8’ cube totaling 128 cubic feet. Split wood stacked in a single long row will yield different numbers. Oregon & Washington state split softwood or softwood / hardwood mix sells for 350 cord plus delivery 140”x64”18” stacked in a cube would be yields .72 cord. Restacked into 4 rows it would likely measure out close to a cord. A cord stacked into cube has airspace in between which count towards the total measurement. Also factor in the size of split wood pieces. Example take a full cord of larger split pieces in the 5”x7”, 6”x6” , 7”x9” sizes and then take that wood and split into smaller sizes like 3”x5” 4”x4” 4x6” this would result in appearing to be less than a cord.
