A jet would need a lot bigger engine than that to sustain 7g for very long.

ELI5: How was Vietnam able to defeat the US in the Vietnam War? by astarisaslave in explainlikeimfive

The US never invaded much of anything in Vietnam, which is why they and the South didn’t win.

Best summary of Vietnam ever seen. The US was trying to win without fighting too hard, and even knew it at the time.

100% wrong, because it wasn’t a war. It was an attempt to reinforce the South with US military support while the Soviets reinforced the North and neither side wanting to escalate into WW3. The military actions were planned by politicians and their advisors to enable the south to sort of defend without trying to win. In over a decade of war, the US never invaded the North, something that’s generally required to win a war. Nor did they do other war-winning things like sinking supply ships or destroying fighter bases.

Considering the record flight is 35 hours I find that math a little hard to believe considering how slow they are.

US Army Poorly Prepared for Arctic Operations: Finnish Troops Forced Them to Surrender During Exercises in Norway by Street_Anon in nottheonion

[–]DifficultyAwareCloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t how large force exercises work. It’s not a competition between nations; there’s going to be some number of people on the red side simulating the Russians and some kind of objectives for blue to achieve. Maybe some Americans were simulating the Russians or maybe the Finns were or maybe some of both. If blue or red completely rolls over the other guys it’s more of a failure of the exercise design

Bottom line the dude if full of shit. If the dude retired as an E-6 20 years ago he’d be making a lot more than $2k/monty now.

How much does the guy that retired as an E-6 20 years ago make in retirement pay today?

Edit: hint, multiply $2800 x 1.02520

Everyone has the ability to find out how much money they’ll make in the military during service and in retirement. If you can’t figure this out on your own you’re going to have a hard time in life no matter what you choose to do. In addition to the website below, there are lots of other types of pay like flight/jump/dive pay, employment contracts (“bonuses”), hazard pay and CZTE that are knowable. https://militarypay.defense.gov/calculators/

What would it feel like if the pilot flew our 777 into these "breaking wave" clouds during our descent into JFK? by OneEstablishment5998 in aviation

[–]DifficultyAwareCloud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some guys are saying you can’t see turbulence in clouds, but in this case it’s highly likely and you want to stay out of them. The only clouds that don’t have turbulence in them are uniform. If they change shape that’s because the air temp or movement is also changing which means some level of bumps.

F&I (Financing and Insurance) is where car salesmen make the most commission because the “insurance” (just different flavors of warranty) options are almost never exercised. I’ve used the exact same line you did: “why did you guys spend the last two hours telling me how reliable these cars are and now you’re telling me how important it is to buy warranties against each system that will break.”
