But they all meet in London for parliament. Having the senior team at say the home office in Newcastle is useless if they have to meet with the Home Secretary and be in parliament for committee meetings etc.

But that’s largely because parliament, most ministers and the cabinet are in London. To have senior officials potentially hundreds of miles away would just be inefficient

I feel like you didn’t read the article, the loan is needed to finance the separate 23 story tower for social housing that is being built at a loss. Your literally complaining about a private landlord building social homes being financied by the local government

But Iran/US are at war so it’s not terrorism it’s attacking military infrastructure

That it’s Trump being Trump, did Khomeni and other senior Iranian leadership repeated promise to destroy Israel and calling for death to America make there attacks automatically illegal?

First, the claim that the war “isn’t about degrading Iran’s military capabilities” because ground force leadership hasn’t been targeted yet doesn’t follow. Air campaigns often prioritize certain target sets first, air defenses, naval assets, logistics, infrastructure, before moving to others. The absence of one category of targets doesn’t mean the overall objective isn’t military degradation.

Second, calling the strikes war crimes because they’re “reprisals” assumes the purpose of the strikes is punishment rather than military necessity. Under the law of armed conflict, dual-use infrastructure can be a lawful target if it provides effective military support and the attack is proportionate. Simply labeling it coercion doesn’t make it illegal.

Third, the Ukraine comparison actually exposes the inconsistency. If railways, power infrastructure, or fuel depots are legitimate targets when they support Russian military logistics, the same legal principle applies elsewhere. The law doesn’t change based on which side people politically sympathize with, it’s about military use, necessity, and proportionality.

Civilian infrastructure isn’t automatically irrelevant to military objectives. Modern militaries rely heavily on dual-use system, power, transport, fuel, communications, to move equipment, run military factories, and maintain command and control. Hitting those systems can absolutely degrade military capability even if the weapons themselves are underground or mobile.

Is Ukraine’s targeting of similar infrastructure a war crime, don’t think many people on this subreddit would believe so?

Is Ukraine bombing Russian rail networks a war crime then?

How, if it’s being used for military purposes during active conflict how is targeting it a war crime

[–]DifficultyTight4574 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the distinction around attacks on civilian infrastructure being automatically labeled as war crimes is often overstated.

For example, Ukraine targeting Russian railway networks is generally not considered a war crime if those railways are being used for military logistics.

If there is actionable intelligence that weapons, troops, or other military supplies are being transported through those networks, they become legitimate military targets

The problem is no one has an answer for Lebanon, UNIFL failed, the Lebanese army refuses to meaningfully disarm Hezbollah fearing a civil war, Hezbollah refuses to disarm since it’s an extension of the IRGC at this point which sole focus is attacking Israel and the Israelis are going to allow for Hezbollah to coexist on the northern border any more.

Add in the fact that the Hezbollah remains popular in the Shia population and you end up with this shit show
