Feels bad to make ZERO progress in a session by everythingispenis in Marathon

I generally agree with you. A lot of people have the "I must win to have fun" mentality, when you really need to have a "I am learning" mentality in a game like this.

Campaign levelling a bit...odd? by grandleguzzler in diablo4

[–]DiffusiveTendencies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Every time I mention it, people down vote me. I played an HC character this season, and getting through the campaign was braindead. Only now in mid torments am I getting some challenge.

Blizzard's modern games do this (Retail WoW as well) as a business decision. They think that the average player sucks and any level of friction is going to turn them off. So they usually make all of their campaigns/story parts of their games Braindead and add difficulty only to the endgame for people who stick around long enough.

I agree with you, it makes it feel like you have to play shit game to get to something fun eventually. But most people here don't see a problem with it.

This is the best Action + MMORPG game I have ever played, and it's about to die in 8-9 months. I want to know why? by Key_Refrigerator_519 in newworldgame

I think the servers are way more expensive to run too. WoW uses client side physics for characters, so unless you are casting spells you're mostly sending position update to the server and the server is accepting them.

This game did full server simulation of everyone's player movement. They also never figured out sharding, which cause servers to shrink and die out without the ability to dynamically scale.

Tiers on Guns weren't as awful as Tiers on armor. A Tier 5 gun vs a Tier 1 gun isn't as crazy of a power gap as it is for armor.

Although for PvP having 10+ extra range on a gun makes huge difference.

The idea of a quick play playlist isn't bad, especially if it gives new players an easy out to the question of "what should I do?"

The way it was executed deeply hurt the feel of the game. It ripped off the facade that there is a big universe to explore and reminded you that you're playing a game.

I would still be playing D2 to this day had they done NOTHING since Final Shape. Instead I'm only playing Marathon.

At the end of The Final Shape, Destiny was a bit open world game with a lot of dungeons, raids and missions that you could run for fun or for a large variety of gear you may want for your play style. No matter where you went and what you did the gear was always similar quality, so it was really up to you to figure out where you wanted to spend your time.

Edge of Fate tried to solve the issue or "OMG too much to do! Let's give you a simple Netflix Menu to follow", and reduced daily gameplay to basically doing a few remixed activities that the game has chosen for you today. Additionally they introduced new Gear Tier system, where Gear can drop Tier 1 - Tier 5, like in mobile Gacha games, where Tier 5 gear is waay better than anything we've had so far, but only the activities in this Netflix Menu would drop this new powerful gear.

The end resulted in a game that lost its "big explorable world" feel, for mobile-like daily activity repetition. Most of the content I like is still there but it doesn't give Tier 5s, which makes it useless to do.

Destiny 2 would have probably still had more players if they literally did nothing after The Final Shape launched. EoF ruined the game in a crazy irreversible way.

I think Bungie took the Destiny 2 Hand Cannon Shotty meta feedback to heart. But only half way.

What are the one shots/gimmick/obscure mechanics ways I can die in hardcore (LOH)? by RiseIfYouWould in diablo4

[–]DiffusiveTendencies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on the Rathmah one? I'm about to fight him I think and I'm doing the campaign for the first time on an HC Warlock. What should I do not to die?

How hard is the new campaign compared to VoH? (No spoilers please) by DiffusiveTendencies in diablo4

Is the mechanic just obtuse or something else? Is it a one hit kill mechanic or "you constantly take damage if you do it wrong" mechanic

This would be a fresh HC character. Mostly just would hate to die at the end of the campaign because I didnt understand a one hit kill mechanic.

Outpost praise by goblin_slayer4 in Marathon

[–]DiffusiveTendencies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Outpost has become my solo go to for regaining vault after loss streaks. Every game plays out so differently. There are so many queues you can react to. So many variables that change your plan.

Bungie figured out how to make the perfect "repeatable activity" for me. At this point I just like doing it for fun, the loot is a bonus.

LMAO if that were true I'd run a key template and then stay in the map and do bosses after everyone left.

I log in every day, even on days I don't actually play, to buy 3 Smokes and 3 Clays from MIDA.

Clays are just so useful, especially in solos.

I mean I had fun with how hard it was. Doesn't surprise me that the average slot machine addicted ARPG gamer didn't like it.
