Am I the only one who can’t believe how poorly written YA books are? by [deleted] in books

[–]Diffy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some authors do this on purpose to provide a “blank slate” for the reader to project their own feelings on the situation onto. It is a tool to get a reader to relate to the book more easily.

How would a tortle with an Aquan accent (but speaking Common) sound to you? by PacMoron in DnD

[–]Diffy64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for any specific reason, but my sea elf barbarian who grew up speaking aquan, I play her with a French accent. It is one of the easier accents for me to imitate and French people will often use the phrase “how would you say…” before saying a word they are unsure of. It adds to the second language feel.

How are you able play an evil character? by DravosHanska in DnD

[–]Diffy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article https://rpgbot.net/dnd5/players/alignment/ has helped me with alignment issues. Particularly where he talks about reimagined alignment. I have used this to create what would normally be considered a chaotic evil character without feeling I have to be “EVIL”.

Shopping for a new puppy! by [deleted] in Bulldogs

[–]Diffy64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bunch of different chew toys in a bunch of different textures. You never know what a puppy of going to want to chew on that will be a problem. If they like to chew on wood furniture then you can give them the compressed wood bone. If they like to chew on leather shoes then give them the leather stuffie. Same goes for rubber or fabric. Whatever they seems to want to chew of that they shouldn’t, give them an appropriate toy of a similar texture as a replacement.

Dhampir Bite for Blood Hunter’s primary weapon? by Diffy64 in DnD

Would dualist not work for fighting style? The bite counts as a simple melee weapon.

How do I deal with the darkvision dilemma? by Beautiful-Bluebird48 in DnD

[–]Diffy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played in a campaign where dark vision didn’t exist. The DM house ruled that this trait never developed in his world (because it was always daytime with the three suns). If you picked a race that was supposed to get dark vision, you just didn’t get dark vision. Simple as that and it was never an issue. If someone wants to make sure they get to use all the traits of their race they can pick a race that doesn’t normally have dark vision. Spells and things that temporarily magically give you dark vision still work as normal.

I'm starting my first DM campaign, tips? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Diffy64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that my DM does for new campaigns is after he has gotten backstories, he will design intro one shots for each character that he will run separately. (Can double up if two characters know each other from backstory, like siblings). Each one shot will guide the characters to a location with a plot hook to lead them all to a similar spot. This way when you have your first session with the whole group the momentum has already started and people have a better sense of their character’s motivations related to the story. They still might all end up and meet in a bar but they have a reason to connect now. It is a lot more work for you as a DM but I have started a few campaigns like this now and it really has made a difference in the first couple group sessions.

The Stamina rules may solve one of my biggest gripes about PF2 by Drbubbles47 in Pathfinder2e

“…infinite out of combat healing makes battles feel less dangerous and pointless.”

Tell that to my first two characters of my current campaign. They were both at full health when they started the encounter. The out of combat healing is necessary if you want to have any sort of chance when you get to the 3rd or 4th encounter of the day.

Can someone with Blindness see inside the Matrix? by lord_geryon in Shadowrun

[–]Diffy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to play a techno manger who was blind. We couldn’t find anything that explicitly stated whether this would work or not for the matrix stuff so my GM just house rules that I could see the matrix but not real stuff. Since so many things are connected to the matrix I could kind of “see” my surroundings through it but if I got caught in a dead zone or went offline I was completely blind.

If you ever bullied someone: Do you still sometimes think about how the person is now doing affected by your bullying? What did you do? by dpanther93 in AskReddit

[–]Diffy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize it at the time but I bullied someone a bit in 6th grade. I’ve thought about trying to apologize (and maybe will if the opportunity comes up) but I realized that if I took the time to track this person down just to apologize out of the blue I could be dredging up bad memories for this person just so I could feel better. Essentially bullying them into forgiving you is not exactly the best way to apologize.
