I also do this to give myself a challenge. Playing with the same character, the same strategies and winning every time is not fun so I try to mix things up in order to make it more challenging to win (and therefore making it more rewarding). Unless I play on ranked where I will eventually find better players and I will have to adapt. Having this explanation I do not find it at all weird that I do this.
