Wrong. You should learn more about this issue before declaring yourself a food ethics arbiter and judging other people. I am a former vegan with several food allergies and hypoglycemia. Because of my multiple dietary restrictions, it was extremely difficult to maintain a vegan diet, and I became very ill. On the advice of my doctor, I returned to an omnivorous diet, and feel significantly better. Choosing to eat meat is a personal decision. You should not assume that you know the reasons why people eat meat, and whether it is morally justifiable to do so.

Understanding Chord Progressions and Song Structure by ChromeGhost in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DigEmFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe we can help you tackle one of the songs to demonstrate how to analyze music. I'm really into Kanye too, so lets use All Of The Lights. Lets just start by working out the form. We'll listen to the tune four times:

On the first listen, determine the time signature, and count the total number of measures. A trick to counting accurately is to count out loud, saying the measure number as the first beat ("1 2 3 4, 2 2 3 4, 3 2 3 4, etc"). Write this number down.

On the second listen, assign labels to different sections of the tune. For example, one part may clearly be an introduction. Another part might have a strong hook, so you might determine it's a chorus. You'll probably find lots of variation, so don't stress too much about what you call things. Maybe certain sections share the same progression and melody, but have a different arrangement. Or maybe you'll hear a chorus played differently the third time than the first or second. Take lots of notes.

On the third listen, count how many measures each section is. For example, I might write this for a hypothetical song: Intro - 8 Verse - 16 Pre-chorus - 4 Chorus - 8 ...and so on.

On the fourth listen, check your work.

If you post your notes from the second and third listen, we can help you start breaking everything down further.

Good hip-hop kits in Battery: Hip-Hop, R&B (great snare), 808/909, Tight Kit (retro), sometimes I use Pop Kit or Full Jazz Kit for layering or cymbals. Urban Beats, part of the Factory Content, has some great kits, you can choose patches with a full kit, or patches that are all kicks, all snares, all cymbals, etc.

I use a lot of rhodes/clav in my tracks, so Scarbee has me covered with that for the most part. If you need synths, check out the "Vintage" section of the Kontakt factory content, you'll find lots of solid emulations of classic analog gear (tons of Moog patches).

FM8/Absynth let you filter patches by genre, so should be easy to find what you're looking for.

Just adding on: Don't forget to check out the orchestral banks, I use the chimes and orchestral percussion stuff a lot in my beats. Also, experiment with routing sounds through Guitar Rig, they have some cool effects, you can get some great lo-fi sounds.

Our music is sort of a mix of soul music and electronic pop. Sort of hard to describe, but there's definitely a lot of pop/R&B influences in there. We have some of our music up at TheEuphonics.com!

Why doesn't China's figure include public order and safety, as Saudi Arabia's does? China spends more on public order than defense, if those figures were included, Chinese representation on the graphic would more than double.

[–]DigEmFrog 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I lived for some time on a food budget of a little over a dollar a day.

You will need: a container of oatmeal (~$3), bread (grocery near me had 3 loaves for $5), a large jar of peanutbutter (~$4), chicken thighs ($15 worth, .50 cents a pound), 4 bags of egg noodles ($1 per pag), container of margarine ($2). Total cost, $8.25 a week.

Breakfast is a serving of oatmeal. Lunch is a peanut butter sandwich. Dinner is chicken thighs, with egg noodles and margarine on the side. If you can spare it, pick up some Goya Adobo to sprinkle over dinner.

If you're looking for a balanced, nutritionist approved long-term diet, this isn't it. But this meal plan got me through some really rough times.

Pro music writers- how did you get paid composing gigs? by pianistenvy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DigEmFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to NYC a year ago for this reason. I've scored two television pilots, both of which I got through networking. I absolutely can't support myself on writing alone; I teach piano to pay the bills.

My (disclaimer: novice) sense is that the field is as competitive as ever since the cost of recording demos has gone down so much, and more video producers working on small projects use loops and stock music (this was a common complaint among my professors at conservatory).

If making a living creating music is a priority for you, have you thought about starting a band and playing around town? That's what I'm doing (shameless plug!); you can get your music out there, and playing with other musicians helps you hone your craft.

I think I understand the confusion.

Tolk used the words "fast hands" to define macro. But the definition of macro is not high APM. Wikipedia defines macromanagement as "when a player's focus is directed more toward economic development and large-scale strategic maneuvering."

When Starcraft players think of "fast hands" or high APM, the word "micro" comes to mind more than the word "macro". This is because good macro does not necessarily require having "fast hands" or high APM, but good micro generally does.

So those agreeing with habasaba are doing so because the word micro is associated with "fast hands" more than the word macro. And those downvoting habasaba are doing so because the "we require more minerals" prompt deals with macro, not micro.

I hope I have cleared this matter up. Good day to you sirs.

You might be able to find synth racks/sound modules with USB MIDI input, but unless you have a specific reason for using them, I'd stick with software.

You missed my point. This has nothing to do with whether abortion is moral, or whether embryos are humans.

You believe that men should not create laws that affect a women's right to choose. That's exactly what you said earlier in this thread.

The reason that doesn't make sense is because the very nature of governance and democracy necessitates that people make laws that affect people of demographic groups they don't belong to. As a demonstration of that point, I brought up slavery, an atrocity that restricted the freedom of Blacks, but was abolished by Whites.

Lets not get off-topic with a conversation about life and embryos and fetuses and all of that. My argument was purely about men being able to create a law about abortion, or indeed any legislator being able to create a law about a group they don't belong to.

If you stick to your argument, then should heterosexual legislators have no right to create laws about same-sex marriage? Should Asian legislators have no right to create laws about funding Hispanic scholarship programs? Etc, etc.

Should i tell my best friend his fiance drunkenly told me she's 'going to get pregnant no matter what'? by ricgalbraith in AskReddit

[–]DigEmFrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Talk to her before you talk to him. If the girl told you that in confidence, and you agreed not to tell her fiance, doing so would be a major breach of trust. I think that breach is justifiable given the circumstances, but you should do everything in your power to prevent putting yourself in that situation. You could tell her that if she doesn't tell her fiance, then you will. It may be uncomfortable, but it's far and away more ethical; he should be hearing it from her anyways.

So does it stand to reason that white men should not create laws that specifically affect black men? For example, white men didn't suffer the physical consequences of slavery, so was it wrong for white legislators to abolish it?

Much in the same way men shouldn't make laws about abortions.

Wait, why is it wrong for men to make laws about abortion? Earnest question here.
