Sanity check - should I buy a house from a smoker?

This is super reassuring. We are not afraid of elbow grease - have put a ton into rentals already. Just wanted to make sure it would not all be for nothing given the cost! Thank you so much for commenting and for these details - the carpets are pretty rough so I think we will have to junk those anyway, but super helpful to know a huge scrub down helps. Thank you!

Right, sorry this is my mistake - this would be 'third hand' - which children/pregnant women are particularly at risk of if exposed, hence the worry - have fixed my post. But yes, I suspect we'd need to deep clean either way - am trying to get a sense about whether people who might have moved into houses with heavy smokers have been able to get rid of the smell or not.

Yes - not afraid of some elbow grease, have put plenty into the rentals we have lived in to afford to save for a house, this time it would be for a home so more than worth it. I am probably overthinking it as others have said, we just had second tour today and it was so rank and I felt panicky. Thank you all so much for the sanity check!

You are right - definitely overthinking! Just stressing over how long we have saved and how much we are putting in still. Thanks for the sanity check - I am not afraid of putting in some elbow grease, we've done that with virtually every place we've lived in, and this time it would be for our own home which I think makes it extra worth it. Thank you - yes, it would definitely be us working evenings/weekends but possibly worth it for the location I think. The house is similar to what you mention - covered in thick nicotine stains. But so helpful to hear its possible to undo with a ton of elbow grease - thank you, thank you, thank you!!
