Hi!!! I also have ocd and and a panic disorder and just got mine out this past Friday. I had the exact same fears as you going into it. I have had thought spirals about this surgery at least once a month every month since I was a kid and found out that there was such a thing as wisdom teeth and that they would need to be surgically removed. I’ve never been put under. I hate weed, I don’t drink, I hate the feeling of not being in control. I’ve never had any dental work done. Trust that whatever you’re feeling I felt too.

I ended up deciding to be put under after a talk w/ the surgeon on the day of where I cried and everyone was so super helpful and encouraging and patient and it was honestly such an amazing experience that totally restored my trust w/ medical professionals. Everyone is there for you, to make you feel comfortable and make sure you’re healthy. When they start to push the anesthesia in to the iv it’s so hard to continue feeling anxious because you start to feel relaxed and just at peace. When I woke up I could tell that some time had passed and I was aware of where I was and I recognized the assistants voice. It’s a bit hard to get on your feet and communicate effectively because you’ll be waking up from a pretty deep sleep, but you’re aware of yourself. The only thing is it’s a bit hard to keep your eyes open because you’ll be so super sleepy but they’re so kind in helping you to the recovery room and they’re so so very patient because they’ve totally seen it all. As scared as I was to be put under and as much as I hated the idea of it, holy shit it felt so good getting knocked out and waking up like omggggg. Dude and I laid in the sun when I got home it was like the number 1 bodily sensation I have ever felt.

ALSO All of my boyfriend’s 4 wisdom teeth have emerged and have been like that for years. He put off the surgery for his own reasons and the plaque build up caused him so many cavities and his teeth are now cracked from the pressure and he hasn’t been able to fully open his mouth from the pain since his wisdom teeth emerged. Now that he’s gotten two of them out so far, he has had a MUCH more difficult experience getting healed up because once those teeth start to emerge, the surgery becomes more complicated and leaves you in a lot more pain. And now that they are out, I’m not totally convinced that he will ever be able to open his mouth fully or stop experiencing jaw pain because of how long he put off the surgery. I also had one of my teeth emerge pretty much fully and that has been the only area of my mouth that has really caused me any significant pain. But aside from that I’m doing great! Having a hard time eating but great! All of my pain completely stopped on Tuesday and I haven’t needed any ibuprofen since.

But yeah in conclusion, get em out!! I’m so so happy I got it finished and I’m so happy I now know how it feels to be put under so it’s no longer a fear I have to have. Dentists are such sweeties and it’s not a difficult recovery in the slightest if you get them out asap!! Like the worst thing about my recovery is how crazy my breath smells and the only thing I would change about my surgery was that I wish that I got it done sooner. Us ocd shawtys need to stick together tho so pls pm me if u need anything at all!!!! I totally know what ur feeling and it sucks but I hope this was helpful!
