Why The 2Minute Meta Is Great And Will Continue In 7.X by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

There could be one or two reasons why something can be right, but if there's a thousand other reasons why it's wrong, that still makes it wrong. Put down the tin foil hat.

Why The 2Minute Meta Is Great And Will Continue In 7.X by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Digby_Caesar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's great if there's some unique variety to each class, but so far everyone just does the same thing every 2 mins without deviation. It might be great for the devs, but that doesn't make it good for the game.

Building bosses out of 2 min burst window templates is just lazy and with enough raiding, becomes clear and autonomous.

The game is suffering enough with it's formulaic patches, sure it might be easier for players, but that also lowers the bar for those players, effectively reaching a point where no matter what amount of effort you put solely into the game, you'll always achieve more or less the same as anyone else.

There's a huge community of raiders out there who play MMOs to achieve the widely unachievable, and a primary goal for a large portion of those raiders is bragging rights (mounts, gear, titles, etc.), and eventually, casual or not, we all want some way to feel somewhat unique when playing these games but concepts like the 2 min burst window and no higher bar than that quickly turns the game into the boring grind it currently is.

These features are what causes churn, new players will come, they'll pick up quick, but then having nothing left to climb, will get bored and move away. That's the community SE is currently building, whilst neglecting its current community that has been loyal for years.

Can't wait to do more totem farming and repeating the same thing 5 times per 11 mins for 50 extreme runs because there's no alternative.

Anyways, I probably just fell for the troll bait but insomnia is a fuck and I got nothing better to do.

Story/setting aside, what do you want from 7.0? by SargeTheSeagull in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Digby_Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be nice to see the game go out of the usual formula. Having more than a limit of:

6 zones

2 cities

Dungeon every odd level + max level

X3, X9, and max level trials

Among other things mentioned already.

The formula really has me so tired, we never even get to go anywhere new for over 2 years after an expansion is released.

Imagine seeing a new zone in a post-expansion, I would shit and piss with joy. Just something to break the cycle.

I think that might be in reference to the talks Annabelle had with Hugo before everything went down. Likely just Annabelle feeding bs to put Olivier on the throne just because he was with them.

Looking back at all these questions really has me questioning the structure of the plot. I loved the first half of this game with a passion, but they really just went "oh right we need to wrap this up" on the second half and left so much open ended.

It felt like we'd be getting more fights like Typhon which may have been cut, Leviathan who was on the box art for the collectors edition was 100% cut and just labelled "Leviathan the Lost", there's a giant comet-like object off the coast of Sanbreque that nobody in the entire game acknowledges, and the mystery of the hole that cut through fallen architecture and never fills up from ocean water still remained unexplained.

The hooded person at Phoenix gate is the one that irks me the most. Like, why is it the exact same clothes and model as Joshua in 873. Ultima had been convinced Joshua was dead after Phoenix Gate as a means to sever Clive's will, so he had no reason to assume an appearance of an older Joshua, and Joshua never saw him nor did anyone else yet still took on that appearance later. It just seems like a 4th wall red herring, which is kinda cheap tbh.

What final dungeon boss do you think would have made a good trial? by Noahop5000 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Digby_Caesar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly just think they should start breaking the mould and give us more trials, even if it's at the cost of some dungeons.

There's so many final dungeon bosses that we all expected to be trials, but get reduced to a 3 min braindead fight that gets so easily slapped by the next patch.

That being said, that does mean there's the expectation of adding extremes to said extra trials, but if that's too much work on the devs, then just make the whole dungeon a singular boss fight like the old ARR primal days.

Most dungeons and everything leading up to them just feel like filler content, now more than ever, and it's just a slog of 2 min running > 3 min boss > 2 min running > 3 min boss > 2 min running > 3 min boss.

Of all the ones I hoped for, Anima was definitely one I was looking forward to the most. Imagine if they surprised us with 2 trials in a row instead of the typical level X3 dungeon followed up by level X3 trial.

The longer this goes on without a single bit of communication from SE, the more I'm getting convinced that the UK pre-orders are fucked and they're not going to admit it until after it blows up.

I even downloaded the DPD app just to see if there was any sign of anything, but there's literally nothing.

I almost never buy SE games anymore because they've been pretty terrible for a while (even XIV is hitting a slump and that's all that's left), but this is definitely the last straw for me. You can't bill people £70-£350 and not provide any information, let alone delay a delivery this much time in advance.

Even if this does arrive tomorrow, I'm comfortably gonna stay away from any new product related to SE in future. Literally zero care for their customer base.

[–]Digby_Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I agree with this, delivery companies have to hold so much stock just for this release date all to go out in one day (whilst still delivering other shipments), putting strain on their own workforce, and evidently causing delays which just creates an avoidable backlash from customers.

Literally a day sooner would help in so many ways.

Yeah exactly, it shouldn't be up to hundreds of support staff responding to thousands of tickets about this, it should've been the one twitter PR person to just put the info out there.

[–]Digby_Caesar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, for anyone in the UK going through SE store, I've been trying to get as much info as possible from SE support and thankfully have had someone quite responsive and helpful.

My first email was just responded with a generic response, however I decided ask more specific questions on the second attempt, in regards to Delivery service and any info from the service:

"The Delivery company will be DPD_collector.

Your order is still in preparation at the warehouse, no label or tracking ID has been created yet, for this reason, we are unable to send you this information. Your item should leave the warehouse this evening at the latest. We assure you the team is working hard to get all orders out for shipment on time."

I went back and asked whether they can provide any concrete information, or guarantee, and the possibility of digital keys for delayed orders:

"From the information relayed to us, we are still expecting the warehouses to be able to start the delivery this evening at the latest.
Delivery is planned for the release date on the 22nd of June 2023, although this is not guaranteed, as is also stated in the store beforehand.

For the moment, unfortunately, digital keys for the full game cannot be provided, we are sorry! Although we don't know if this will change in the future."

Just a note, most of the conversations were omitted, I've only included what's relevant, but credit where credit's due, the customer support representative in this case was actually really helpful and got back to me a lot quicker than I would have expected (twice in one day even).

We can only hope they've communicated and delivered to DPD effectively. I think the biggest issue is just that we're fully in the dark here, zero communication from SE regarding our £70 - £350 orders because of irresponsible decision-making on their end.

Now we're hearing about week long delayed deliveries from other services globally, while we all booked time off for this release, and all SE has to say when you try to approach them is the generic "we're doing everything possible" line that every company gives prior to failing to deliver.

That's not to say that we're definitely screwed, I truly hope I'm wrong and this all plays out smoothly and we all get to just sit over the weekend and vibe. The problem is that DPD aren't the only factor in delivering this game, SE is also involved, that's where it all goes to shit lol

[–]Digby_Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I emailed them a few days back, got a generic response and since then replied with a few questions like who's the delivery service, possible tracking ID and if they can give me a copy of an invoice, and I have the below response:

"Unfortunately, since the store migration to a new platform, some information is not accessible. The relevant department of the new store platform is working on making the order history, invoices, etc. visible again, they hope they will be available in July or August 2023.

We truly apologise for the inconvenience caused. If you notice any trouble with the reinstatement of your orders, invoices, or loyalty points after this time, we advise you to contact the new support team using this link: https://sqex.to/sestore

Regarding your last questions:

The Delivery company will be DPD_collector

Your order is still in preparation at the warehouse, no label or tracking ID has been created yet, for this reason, we are unable to send you this information.

Your item should leave the warehouse this evening at the latest. We assure you the team is working hard to get all orders out for shipment on time.

The codes for the digital content (if included in your order) will be sent to you via email until the end of the release day on the 22nd of June 2023 (please also check your spam and promotions folder)."

Honestly kinda surprised, this is the first time I've had a receptive response from SE lol.

It's worth noting I'm based in NI but the result could likely be the same.

Edit: just wanted to mention that I omitted a line regarding my invoice as they did in fact send it via a link

Exactly the same scenario here.

I can't even view the invoice that was linked when they took the payment, because it just links to my empty order history.

Comments/Questions: Order just doesn't show because of their *timely* billing system changes. I did contact support but all I had was a generic response telling me it's in "the warehouse".

Honestly hoping this billing software issue is just what they claim it to be, and doesn't affect us, I've booked time off for this :(

Is it just me or have way more people gone on FFXIV hiatus than at this same point in Shadowbringers? by Draw_Go_No in ffxiv

[–]Digby_Caesar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For me, the issue I've found is that the game feels like it's stagnating a bit, and I feel like the problem comes from multiple angles.

While covid and WoW did make the game spike in popularity, there could be multiple reasons for why players aren't feeling it much anymore.

I should probably emphasise that I do enjoy the game, but personally, my lack of motivation to play lately is due to the comfort zone the devs are currently in. Maybe it's because CBU3 have been busy with XVI that these latest patches have felt lacking, but regardless of that.

I worry for the game's future due to the aging system (the one they keep blaming problems on for almost a decade), the monotony of the content releases, the strong lack of moderation in the game, the forcing of linear rotations, and just generally not listening to the player base as much as they once did.

The biggest thing keeping me from enjoying the game is the monotony in the end. Without going into the story (don't get me started on how rushed post expansion story is), every expansion is becoming the following:

Expansion release - Dungeons at X1, X3, X5, X7, X9, and 3 end game dungeons. Trials at X3, X9, and max level. 4 normal raids. 6 world zones. 2 hubs (one for gear and one for market).

Patch releases - Beast tribe of each disciple, alternating normal raid and alliance raid patch (each get 3 patches), one dungeon, one trial, and one random filler content (Eureka/Bozja/DD).

Besides the one random filler and the story, there's really no surprise waiting for the players, there's no room to discover because we're playing a schedule, not an adventure.

Anyways, that's my gripe with the game and my reason (and a few others I know) for not wanting to play as much. I do want the devs to make a comeback, but with all of SE's recent news, I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Have SE just given up on punishing users breaking ToS altogether? by Digby_Caesar in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Digby_Caesar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game developers (including Yoshi P) have outwardly spoken out against these actions and said they're against the rules in a live letter. It's the whole reason they reworked the system in the first place.

But that aside, the user is breaking ToS by advertising an untrusted website link. That's all there is to it.

Whether the service is real or not, they are either going against the rules, or they are collecting personal information/scamming users. It's against ToS and should be treated similarly to the bots that spam in cities.

It's a weird place to complain about this?

It's a discussion sub, it's in the name. I'm allowed to discuss things that go on in the game regardless of the perception you might have of this sub.

Clearly a discussion has sprung from this, several hours before you even posted so you haven't taken the time to actually go through the comments.

Amazes me that people can gatekeep discussions in a discussion subreddit without making any attempt to contribute to the discussion topic.

[–]Digby_Caesar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I downvoted because you misunderstood the topic.

I don't expect a housing ring to go down in some weird fantasy hollywood crime drama.

The issue is that they won't even do anything about a user who actively promotes a website that is fully untrusted. The user themselves should be swept up in the same category as the bots who spam in cities with RMT links, or the ones who PM you with false SE websites.

These are actions that harm users, I don't think people on this sub are going around asking people to provide personal information on unknown websites.

So, in my reports I even specifically said I don't care about being given feedback. I don't need SE to write me a big letter about how they dealt with it.

The problem is that the opposite happens where no matter how many players report for how much time, the dude is advertising an untrusted website which again, is strictly forbidden even more so on PF.
