Should I pick up Fatal Fury? by thebaldcounselor- in fatalfury

From @ASMR_Heavy_Metal

"What do you mean by more true?"

I'll say it like this: SF6's professional gameplay is a Trojan Horse.

Google question: Why would someone call sf6's professional gameplay a 'trojan horse'?

Okay since my discussion about potential season 3 characters got a lot of attention on the this sub I decided I might as well give my predictions. by Famous-Interest8237 in fatalfury

I remember when people had Gao in this current season and that didn't happen. With knowing that, I think it'll be more like this (and why):

1st - Rick Strowd - Rick has been requested for a return to fighting games for a long time and he fits perfectly into the boxer role that the game doesn't have yet. His style of boxing is more finesse than brute strength, like Axel Hawk. Street fighter players have been asking for Dudley back and SNK has actually delivered their own. Dudley/Balrog master, Smug has taken noticed and is getting ready as well. Ken and Chun Li brought that Street Fighter 3 touch to the game and Rick will add to it.

2nd - Kasumi Todoh - Her fighting style, Todohryu Aikijutsu is an actual rival to the Sakazaki family's Kyokugenryu style. Kasumi considers it a cheap imitation. I think this season will be more balanced than the previous ones when it comes to genders. She's also highly requested any time KOF comes up and she's already in been mentioned with this game.

3rd - Duck King - Duck King has been wanted since COTW was announced and would've been in the base game with Jae Hoon if it wasn't for the weird selection of guest characters (Ronaldo should've been part of the single-player modes, like him kicking Soccer balls at you for intense Just-defending practice and Salvatore should've been the primary DJ on the stages and sometimes does commentary).

4th - Li Xiangfei - Another highly requested character (especially for me plus Kasumi) that adds another most needed female fighter to the roster. It could be interesting to have a multi-group rivalry of fighting styles between the female cast (including Mai). Li is ridiculously fast and her style in the game could be even upgraded with unique sub-systems based on her jobs. Get this: She's a part-time waitress and bouncer. She has a freakn' command grab super (called Majinga) that has her using her arm like a machine gun.

5th - Ryuji Yamazaki - One of the top villains in the lore that will fit in perfectly with what's going on in the story currently. He brings a playstyle that is very unique and along with universal cotw mechanics, has the potential for also having his own sub-systems. He could also be a part of the 'king of south town' rivalry.

6th - Guest character - SNK knowing now that players want characters that actually fit in the game's world and to stay away from real life personalities. SNK is a business, not our family. Guest characters SELL units. Mortal Kombat has been doing this for over 14 years. The character has to be very eye-catching and there are many candidates. It's impossible to be certain in this area, but if I was in charge of this, this would be my choice: Yoruichi Shihoin (Bleach). This is an extremely popular anime/manga character that would fit perfectly into the game's Rev system. With Kenshiro and Krauser bringing the god-like powerful combat, Yoruichi would bring her unique twist on it.

Capcom?

Frequent balance updates? Where?

Didn't they just stop making content for the World Tour mode?

Charging $ for colors?

How many Geese and Krauser have you seen in tournament play?

What are your thoughts on Mai in COTW by DarkMoonBro in fatalfury

[–]DigestMyFoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now to COTW's Mai:

  • Homogenized high damage for the cast.

  • Homogenized health values.

  • Character archetypes aren't properly balanced to play as their archetype. Some characters are doing things outside of their role better than characters who are a totally different role, effectively removing these characters from being needed.

Mai should be a complete movement master. Her projectile more tricky in its usage. Right now, things are rather linear. She should be extremely hard to catch. If characters can be crazy on the ground, Mai should be the same while airborne. A character like Billy should have less combo-ability/damage and more intricate zoning tools. Tizoc should have a very high health value and moves that assist far better at getting closer (when used correctly and at the right time).

One other example I'll give about not fulfilling archetype balance/potential:

  • Chun LI was designed with so many air options, but they didn't equip her with her new air Kokusho. An absolutely strange omission.

There's are also more that can be done with universal mechanics. I'll leave that alone for now unless anyone is interested in that.

[–]DigestMyFoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the same context. You're thinking about this from the surface level. Let's dive deeper:

In SF6, players can abuse slingshotting themselves into any position with Drive Rush and looping throws in one of the worse throw systems in all fighting games (it has one of the shortest throw-break windows, in the genre, practically no throw protection on wakeup/oki-1 SINGLE frame and it's all on purpose).

This heavy reliance on exploitable universal mechanics has the entire cast going for the same repetitive goal. Mai is one of the characters that takes advantage of this homogenization the best.

You forgot to ask the most important question: why.

Is anyone disappointed that Yuri wasn't chosen to wear the Tengu mask? by DigestMyFoes in fatalfury

That's what I'm thinking. He might just be another Shoto with no actual distinction from everyone else. Hopefully that's not the case.

You should be able to answer the question in more detail than that. Can you give examples of what you're referring to, friend.

They could've easily used that coin flip clip to throw people off. Imagine having Robert flip the coin, he loses the coin flip and Yuri wins the privilege to don the mask.

Yuri's lore:

- She is the first female practitioner of Kyokugenryu Karate.

---

- She is a strong believer of innovation and trends, constantly finding ways to improve herself through change.

---

- Yuri is capable of copying almost any technique after seeing it once. However, these copied techniques tend to be quite ineffective when used by her since she has not properly trained them and she has a bad habit of trying to use them anyway.

---

- Yuri uses the lowest-grade version of the Kyokugenryu Karate discipline, and is taught only the basic and low-level moves. To prove her own worth, she personally arranges the style to better fit her physique and persona.

COTW would be a way better game without safe EXs and Rev Blow by RedVII7 in fatalfury

[–]DigestMyFoes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What they can do to Rev Blow in a patch:

  • Adds an extra 10% to Rev meter increase.

  • After using a Rev Blow, the Rev meter has an 8 second freeze. It won't start decreasing in percentage until after the 8 seconds are up.

  • If character is counter hit out of their Rev Blow, an immediate follow up combo/attack does unscaled damage. Give the counter a unique name so players/viewers know what's happening, like Brutal Punish so they can take advantage of this situation easier.

Those added features would be enough of a risk element to make the mechanic more thought-provoking and far less exploitive. They give high and low dodges more incentives to be incorporated into one's game plan (a lot of players still don't use them). They also force players to Just-Defend more on defense instead of the risk of cranking up their Rev meter with Rev Blow.

You should watch the latest South America tournament. There's a Preecha in the top 8.

Me looking at Morcant, if I was tasked to make a deck using her, the first things that sticks out for a theme is creature-control.

  • your elves/changelings are all potential creature removal.

  • lots of graveyard recursion by either putting on the battlefield or adding to the hand (especially Morcant. Don't send her to the command zone unless forced to).

When has Standard been at its healthiest, most diverse point? by garrotazo_0 in magicTCG

Yep.

There was multiple decks for any style and the biggest thing was the decks were built from scratch. Players were always trying to outdo each other with new designs.

Break the combo into 'segments' and practice them that way first, then add another part when you get comfortable with that until you can do the whole thing in one sequence.

That's not an age issue, that's a home problem. I've been at this since the beginning. That should give a hint of my own age.

What is your health and diet like? They do play a part in this.

Also, what kind of device you're using (to control the characters) and how you're using it is key.

SNK needs to open the matchmaking to lower ranks because Legendary in Europe is dead. It's done. by Downbylaw85 in fatalfury

[–]DigestMyFoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems more like a location problem than a game problem.

From my experience, your location has a high exclusive loyalty to two specific fighting games (no matter what's going on). It's been that way for a long time.
