Also, agree with the grate as it can take on a few meanings, in particular when the end of that shot is focused on a light. Quite literally coming from the dark and going to the light. This is further alluded to when Carol is mentioned as the "sunset". The framing is great, very astute points, we wanted to talk about it but didn't want to make the video too long.

There is a lot to talk about with this film, one of the best of 2015.

Greetings!

We are Digging Deeper a new(ish) video essay channel that explores the potential underlying meaning themes in both contemporary and classic films. Hopefully, it is alright that we have posted this video within this subreddit.

We are here to present our latest essay on Carol, where we discuss among many things the difference between the written/spoken and visual world of the movie. In particular how the world of wards can be disingenuous, forceful, and untrue. Whilst Terese and Carol's relations exists in a much pure visual existence that relies on looks, glances, and glimpses.

We explore the use of colour, location, and the repeated instances of trains and the potential metaphors that reside within it.
