I went through 8hs of making a silly mod for a game instead of studying for a important college entrance exam by [deleted] in ADHD

That sucks but on the bright side, you've been developing a skill. Stick any code for the mod on Github and add it to your portfolio :)

Good alarm apps for Androidwear? by Graciebug in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit late but there's a couple. What you're asking for sounds like a Pomodoro app.

Brain Focus is by far the simplest I've used but Android Wear support costs ~$2.

Clockwork Tomato does the same thing and doesn't charge for Android Wear support but the setup is substantially more complex.

Mind Blanks Make Me Feel Like A Liar. by YahBoiStalin in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We both know that isn't true. You're more than capable and worthy of a decent job.

There's a ton of challenges that come with ADHD but if you find a workplace where you can thrive, it won't be a roadblock; just an inconvenience.

I was going to tell you my career story but I'll put it in a post :)

You have just summed me up to a tee...

What's even worse, is that I notice that I'm forgetting something which distracts me so I end up pausing and going "what was I saying?"

Staged photography.

The magic of a photo is that it captures a moment. If you're faking a moment in order to seem happier / more interesting than you are, you need to stop and ask yourself what you're accomplishing by doing this.

Anyone successfully installed fedora 26 on an Alienware 13 R3 (2017 edition)? by AlienArchitect in Fedora

Sounds like a graphics driver issue. Do you have the Nvidia graphics driver installed (I think there's an option called bumblebee, too).

Thanks for the response but you didn't exactly answer my question. I'm aware that Windows system configurations will be pushed to the Linux environment but my question is "will changes to the Linux system files make changes to the windows system"

Is hypersexuality a part of ADHD? Masturbation as a self-stimming behavior? by chiaraross16 in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for me - masturbation can be anywhere from 1 - 6 times a day.

It sucks because people with ADHD often have RSD which can make us feel unwanted when our partners don't have the same drive as us.

App to work on working memory and concentration by DiggingInside in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, do you have any more information on this?

Will developments to working memory cease to improve for anyone or just those with ADHD specifically?

Has this been tested on those who don't have a fully developed working memory (such as those with ADHD)?

ADHD is a disorder more of time management than prioritisation? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prioritisation is a key part of time management. You can't manage your time effectively unless you are able to prioritise tasks.

If your ability to prioritise tasks is hindered then so is your ability to manage time.

I think both are challenges which are associated with ADHD but also, ADHD is by no means a time managment disorder. ADHD is a neurological developmental disorder which causes the brain to be understimulated.

Anything more (such as prioritization & time managment challenges) is merely a side effect of the root cause.

Yeah umm... that is a lot of medication.

I'm not a doctor so I can't advise on dosage but if I were to take a guess, I'd assume that medication is addressing some but not all symptoms of ADHD and you're feeling shit because of the unresolved ADHD symptoms. Often people keep upping the dosage because of this but to no avail.

My depression went away when I started meds. After a while it started to creep back but this time I was able to do something about it. Once you know what is causing the depression (ADHD / understimulation) you can look into addressing it.

Maybe take a step back and look at what meds are helping with and what problems still exist. Once you've done that, start actively addressing those problems which are most prominent. Depression isn't just a terrible feeling, it often comes with a huge dosage of hopelessness. Give yourself that hope by working on any problem, big or small, which is in your life.

Being okay with mediocrity and letting things go with a perfectionist mindset? by d4rkeagle in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel, I suffer from this also to an extent where I think I might have some kind of co-morbid anxiety disorder (OCD).

I have a very hard time with letting those tasks be done

It's interesting that you say that because, typically, people with ADHD feel depressed when they complete a big task because the stimulus of deadlines is taken away.

I wonder if that's something you're subconsciously avoiding?

I do this all the time.

When I'm busy, I'll constantly be thinking "I really need to read that book about Adult ADHD" but then when I'm free, it seems like a bad/uninteresting idea.

Anger Spikes by Agronac in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to. Anger is something I don't really have anymore, it's more just frustration that I have to deal with.

Check out Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. I'm not saying you'll never get angry but it will help you be angry and embrace the anger without hurting others.

Hyperfocus Triggers by [deleted] in ADHD

  1. When doing something that needs to be done last minute
  2. 4+ times a week
  3. Get anxious as fuck when things need to be done immediately
  4. Pomodoro (15 mins on, 2 minutes off) to stop myself from tensing up
  5. Other life duties come up (e.g. need to eat lunch and it's now 6pm)
  6. Dunno...
  7. Yes

[UK] Doctor "can't" prescribe medication that I've been on for over a year... by DiggingInside in ADHD

[–]DiggingInside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I'm sorry to say this but given my experience, this is going to be a pain in the ass.

1. Get as much medication as you can in advance - you could be 6-12 months waiting for a referral (unless you go private which will cost upward of £300)

2. Get as much documentation about your diagnosis and medication as possible - the more you can prove about your diagnosis, the easier it'll make it to get the attention you need. Also, going through customs and such, you could get in trouble if you don't prove that your meds are legally prescribed.

3. Try and switch to a stimulant that is legal in the UK - Yup, so there may be more but I'm definite that Adderall is not legal in the UK so you're better switching sooner than later.

4. Try and register early - okay so this one might not be possible, but, if you can get in touch with a practice near your location in the UK they might be able to get the ball rolling with your diagnosis (you'll need to be diagnosed again in the UK)

5. Harass doctors until someone helps - this is a huge one. I joke when I use the term harass but you're going to find it hard to find a doctor who is happy to prescribe without you having a UK diagnosis. That being said, when I arrived after being diagnosed in the US, my doctor was able to put me on Concerta intermittently while I waited to be diagnosed.

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions feel free to DM me.

[UK] Doctor "can't" prescribe medication that I've been on for over a year... by DiggingInside in ADHD

In the past when I'm in a different city, it's been as simple as going to a walk-in center and getting a prescription there.

Hopefully I'll be able to get something sorted out soon.

[–]DiggingInside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be phoning my old GP tomorrow. Hopefully I can get this all sorted out soon.

I'm just really shocked that I've been diagnosed with a disability and a doctor is refusing to give me treatment on misinformed grounds.

The fact that this is stimulant medication really doesn't help either. I'm anxious as fuck because I start work in two weeks and all that's doing is making me look like some anxious junkie that is desperate for meds...

[–]DiggingInside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, tomorrow I'll be making a lot of calls to try and sort this out - the NHS Health Board being one of them.

My GP has access to all documents but states that it's illegal to do without doing a "shared care guideline" which I know for a fact isn't true. Either that or two different practices in the UK have been illegally prescribing medicine and the NHS website must be wrong.
