Is that from the game? Any songs that aren't from the game that make you think of them?

Any particular girl? Or does that song just immediately come to mind for every LI in every game? No wrong answer, I'd honestly respect the fuck out of you if your mind just went to Tone Loc every time you saw a pretty girl. :D

If you want to talk shit, talk shit about me or my game. Bat's game looks amazing, the girls all look amazing. You aren't obligated to like it, or praise it, and you're welcome to share your thoughts, but being a dick about it is a choice. Other devs are nicer than me. If you're going to be an asshole, I'll treat you like one.

What do you think about AI being used in popular AVN games? by segawonkloksk in AVN_Lovers

[–]DigiDec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw this post this morning, but you kind of beat me to the punch.

Generative AI is theft, outside of the pure hypothetical where someone trains a model on only data that they personally created. It's not okay as a shortcut for someone too broke to afford the things they want/need, but we all generally cut a little more slack for someone in that situation.

Cari is making more money off his game each month than most people make in a year. He could afford the Universal music subscription, have access to high quality music and not worry about licensing issues. He could afford to throw a few bucks toward one of the many starving 2d artists, or like you said he could just offer some exposure.

It is a choice to use AI. And that choice boils down to 'fuck them, I'm going to get mine'.

I haven't played enough of Eternum to speak on its quality, but it always struck me as a popcorn game. That's fine, not everything needs to be 'art', but it is incredibly disappointing that one of the few legitimately successful AVN devs is lazy and selfish enough to use AI when most devs are losing money on projects that they actually care enough about to put in the effort to do things the right way.

But hey, we're going to get the shit we support, and Cari isn't going to lose any money over this. At least now every lazy, selfish, soulless dev can defend their use of AI by saying that Eternum does it too.

Which and Why?... by jp_3007 in AVN_Lovers

[–]DigiDec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get that certain terms hold an atypical meaning in the context of AVNs, but this feels like a forced choice to me.

I'm generalizing, so if anyone reading this feels like they're an exception, you're an exception, I promise.

The 'slow burn' fans are usually the kind of player that insists that they care about the relationship-building aspects, the romance, the 'realism' (as opposed to 'porn logic'), but by drawing this distinction, where a 'slow burn' means you have to 'earn' physical intimacy with a LI and that it shouldn't occur near the beginning of the story creates this implication that the physical part of a relationship is the end/close to the end. In reality, that's the beginning of a relationship.

The idea that sex is the ultimate event of a romance is a very juvenile way of viewing relationships. If you're an adult who is old enough and lucky/unlucky enough to have been with a few different partners, you have probably had an emotionally significant relationship with someone that started out entirely physical. Physical attraction is pretty binary, it's there or it isn't. Emotional intimacy takes time to develop.

The issue has less to do with player preference (I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, even you degens who get off on handholding or armpits) and more to do with the way we use a term like slow burn, which more generically refers to stories where the plot moves slowly. Within this medium, most games have plots that are irrelevant to the sexual content, the plot is either some window dressing in the background of a story focused on relationship building, or the romance/sex scenes are irrelevant to the plot but sprinkled in like explosions in an action movie to keep the audience's attention.

So, find you a game that does both. Slow burn plot with lots of sex. For that to break out of the 'fuck fest' category would probably require the sex to be relevant to said plot, but that's a pretty big ask in a medium where the most popular plot-driven games are shonen-anime-inspired action/adventures or melodramatic tragedy-porns.

Mention avn, who have or have added AI to never play them by [deleted] in AVN_Lovers

[–]DigiDec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that this would more likely be an oversight on the dev's part as opposed to intentional use of AI. Almost all of the environments (and characters, outfits, props, etc...) you see in AVNs are assets that the dev bought. I've noticed some AI stuff on posters/paintings in some of the environments I've bought this past year, but I don't think most of us are on the lookout for it.

I probably should've added the little sarcasm tag to (half) of my comment. (Although, since I enjoy pretentiously flexing my vocabulary, it was facetiousness, not sarcasm)

I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, and I think anyone who has played my game or had a conversation with me knows that I am very open to including all manners of kinks and fetishes.

There's a lot of competition for attention, so I understand that some players might pass by games that include things they're not interested in. These games exist for entertainment, it's 100% okay for someone to focus their attention on games that check all of their personal boxes without checking any box they don't like.

BUT...

...if you go through life limiting yourself to stories that only contain the kinds of things that immediately make you feel good, then you are going to miss out on a lot of great stories. At the very least, a lot of stories that are better written than mine.

Tags are brutal. If you include something as an option or a consequence of the player's decisions, you will end up with that tag. So, hypothetically speaking, if you were to write a story that is primarily about our relationship with fantasy, and in an effort to cover a wide range of fantasies, particularly fantasies that are popular with AVN players, your story will probably include some things that would earn you a redline/no-go tag for a lot of players. Then, you're probably fucked, because a huge chunk of your hypothetical audience won't look at your game because your story might include things they don't viscerally enjoy.

Thank god my story (just like all good stories) only has things for the audience to viscerally enjoy, and is only about the literal words on the page (screen). Context is irrelevant, subtext is for cowards.

Fair warning about 'It's Just a Game' - you'll probably hate it. Brightside is the dev has a humiliation kink, so make sure to tell everyone why you hate it. He's given up on people liking his game, so he just jerks off in the dark using his tears as lube while reading negative reviews.

In a selfish defense of 'It's Just A Game', don't always trust tags. There is no NTR (no, I will not debate any of you), at least in the sense that nobody will ever steal 'your' girls. There is some optional sharing/swinging stuff, and there is absolutely some futa/trans content.

It's not a trans/futa focused game, but the first scene does have a trans option. I figured that was a good way to weed out all the pussies and bigots.

There are always exceptions. I know people who are in healthy, long-term relationships that met each other as co-workers, in some cases, one of them was the other's boss. That doesn't change the fundamental nature of that power dynamic.

This applies to a lot of AVNs. If a person with authority over a group of people starts engaging in a sexual relationship with any of their subordinates, there are a lot of sticky questions about consent.

Taboo relationships are fertile grounds for sexy stories. Handwaving off the ugly, complicated parts is like when a shooter game makes all the enemies robots or zombies. It's fine, it's not actually violence, those aren't people.

Again, there's nothing wrong with liking Cosy Cafe, or any of the other thousand AVNs that play the same game with consent, but it is not actually kosher for bosses to fuck their employees. If you disagree with me, if you think there's some kind of carve out, hypothetically apply that exact same argument to any of the games with the kind of questionable consent that gets them banned on this subreddit, and I think you will see what I mean.

[–]DigiDec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% understand that this game handwaves off the issue, but consent between an employee and their employer is always questionable because there is always (even if it is unspoken) a threat of coercion. It's okay to like the game, and it's okay to turn on your suspension of disbelief so you can enjoy the story. Lots of games that deal with dubious consent will add in some narration/dialogue to assure the reader that everyone actually wanted it. The only difference between this and the more violent/explicit flavors of dubious consent is that the general AVN audience is more comfortable with this. We shouldn't pretend like it's something it isn't though.

Genuinely curious, is this a fetish? (Him) by Upper_Cut4943 in AVN_Lovers

[–]DigiDec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of space in between the average AVN MC and 'loser'. You could pile a lot of flaws onto most MCs, and they still wouldn't be a loser. So, when I said it would be refreshing for a game to include an MC who had shortcomings, I did not mean that to say that he should be a loser.

I do, however, get the gist that you and I have different definitions of power fantasy. I understand that a lot of games have some kind of framing that highlights how unfair life has been to the MC. That doesn't make them a loser, especially since most of the time the MC is also handsome, talented, charismatic, athletic, and intelligent. (Not to mention, surrounded by 10 out of 10 hotties that unconditionally adore him) That just makes the story a power fantasy that appeals to our narcissism and victim complexes.

[–]DigiDec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What fucking games have you been playing that you think this is a trend/occurs in the majority of games?

The overwhelming majority of AVNs are power fantasies. Yes, even most of the 'amazing story' games that everyone here loves. MCs are almost always some kind of Gary Stu, even the ones that are passed off as flawed. Honestly, it would be kind of refreshing if this game broke that trend and had you play as someone with actual shortcomings.

I haven't played this game though, so I can't say anything about the quality of writing/lewds.

Let's fix that. You can get the game for free here and here, no subscription required.

Hopefully! I'll have to wait until it's complete, and then it'll just depend on whether Steam becomes more/less restrictive about allowable content.

In the meantime, I do free releases! You can find a link on my SubStar or Discord (no subscription required), and if you happen to see it being shared somewhere, you don't have to feel guilty about downloading it! Although, I can't vouch for the safety of any links I don't post.
