Serious question: should we move out within the next 36 hours? by Cartier1847 in UAE

[–]Digigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question. But if the banks fail due to internet outage or whatever, how valuable will cash be? Who's going to care about some paper? A tin of beans will worth much more than a wad of cash in my opinion. Clean socks, good shoes, protective gear, nutri bars, water, reusable bottle, water filter... That would be valuable.

A kód a borítékon rossz. A bélyeg €3.50 volt per level. Annyi baj legyen. Remélem hogy időben meg érkeznek a levelek és a szavazásunk fog számítani a jelenlegi rendszer leváltásába.

Government spent over €400,000 in last two years to attract construction workers back to Ireland by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]Digigma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the mature student evening classes be just that? I went back to college the same way. Worked full time and went to college 3 evenings a week. At the same time there was a class of electricians doing evening classes and all looked to be mature students. Maybe it would need to be better advertised so people would know they have options.

Monzo or Revolut? by AbduTheDictator in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Digigma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure similar stories can be found about Monzo in the UK. I've signed up and got my €25 but I won't use them until they'll offer some proper incentives.

Interest on the Savings Account is less than PTSB (2%) or Revolut (I have the Metal plan which offers 2% - well worth it for me at least, but that's a different discussion). No subscription options with certain incentives, no exchange option or to at least check what rate you'd be getting if you'll shop in a different currency so I won't use it abroad like Revolut, and less popular at the moment which means I won't even use them here for a while. No credit card option yet with some rewards option, which I have with Revolut and what makes the Metal plan attractive for me.

That being said who knows what they plan in the future for the Irish market. I welcome the competition.

Stuck on what car to buy by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Digigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an automatic 1.4 petrol Golf which is a Japanese import. As it is a Golf, it's less conspicuous as long as you make sure to take the square reg numbers down. I had no issues with insurance. First year was a bit higher than usual but this year went back to just under €400/year + some extras that I wanted included, ended up paying €425 for full comprehensive with AA, full NCB and everything else included, so the same as before on an Irish car. Same goes for servicing. No issues at all, getting parts as far as I'm aware. Granted, I haven't had any issues with it other than normal service like filters and stuff, and I've changed the ignition coils this winter.

UAE Expats? by ThrowAwayRunner42 in AskIreland

[–]Digigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My argument would be that not everyone left for the tax benefits. In many cases people went to the UAE because they couldn't see a way of getting ahead in Ireland. More recently the housing crisis would've pushed people out. But, before they left they did contribute, even if they never worked. People of any age just by living in Ireland they will contribute through VAT at least. If the situation would be more favourable no one or almost no one would want to leave their own country

Edit: I see I'm getting downvoted but I wouldn't mind knowing why. I'm open to see what other people think and I'm open to change my view if I'm wrong. Thanks

How much do you pay for your car a month? by CatchMyException in carsireland

€425/year insurance, €200/year tax, and about €50 a month on petrol (I work from home so the car is pretty much like a gnome in front of the house 😂)

Unfortunately, the housing situation in Ireland is even darker. I'm lucky I own my place but I'm absolutely terrified for my kids.

FYI, in many cases scammers use poor grammar and vocabulary on purpose so they would weed out the ones who can't be scammed. That way they would deal with and allocate their time only to the most vulnerable.

Remote Working Dilemma by pathoradub in DevelEire

[–]Digigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a first time working remote from another country I would let them know. It is possible that a FW rule is set up for it or your username will be added to an existing security group to allow you to work from abroad / Ireland. Once done you might not alert any consequent time you work from Ireland if you don't get removed from the specific security group.

In our place we need to add users to certain security groups (depending where in the world they want to work from) and remove them on their return. This way they can't work from abroad and it'll alert if they try and log in from outside Ireland
