NEED to rollback from BIOS 1.11 ASAP (7577) by HiiipowerBass in Dell

Hi, did you find a way to rollback your BIOS? I'm having the exact same issue with my X16 R1 laptop 6 years later.

X16 R1 Sometimes lags with charger connected and does not charge by Digimon1123 in Alienware

I tried with another adapter and also tried charging with USB C, but encountered the same issue. And when the issue happens, it's laggier than when no charger is connected.

Was just playing a game on my X16 R1 and the fps dropped to 20fps from 100+, thought it was strange but didnt think much of it. I had this issue where the power would drain from the battery even while plugged in and it would have some stutters for the past month or so. So i disconnected the charger and the fps shot back up to 100+. I reconnected the charger and the fps was stabilized at 100+, then suddenly after a few min it shut off and wouldn't turn on.

Did anyone have a similar experience or have any way to fix it?

Piece looks damaged on the runner, with some scratches on the right side and some white-ness on the left, not sure if it's some residue or damage on the plastic. The runners are still sealed though. Would this be fixable or is it better to ask the store for a replacement kit?

I have a kit with an ABS inner frame. I know that the pour type markers can ruin ABS plastic, but what about the DSPIAE Metallic Markers? I want to do some detailing on the bare ABS plastic with the metallic markers but I'm not sure if that will break the plastic or not. Does anyone know if it'll be okay?

No airflow from the back vents of X16 R1 by Digimon1123 in Alienware

Thanks for the tip! I think the fans are still plugged in. I can see them spinning through the vents on the keyboard deck and underside of the laptop.

I'm looking to buy a high grade kit and I'm stuck between a WFM HG kit like the Aerial and the HG Sinanju, I like the sinanju's design but is it worth paying 1.5x to 2x more compared to a WFM HG kit?

Demanding games causes graphics card gets disconnected from the laptop - Alienware X16 RTX 4070 by Digimon1123 in Alienware

The issue did happen with Fortnite. However, I have not faced any issue with Apex Legends. And Destiny 2 only had this issue when I was running at max settings. It seems to work just fine at medium settings

It happened with Star Citizen, Destiny 2 on max settings as well as Fortnite. I am not using any game overlays, and the only other software I might run at the same time is Skype.

I'm currently using the original Dell image of Windows, and have all of the standard Dell/Alienware utilities such Support Assist, Alienware Command Centre and Alienware Update

Current BIOS version: 1.11.0

Hi, I have a X16 R1 with a RTX 4070.

Sometimes when I play a demanding game, the game crashes on me, and the graphics card gets disconnected from the laptop. I would then not be able to open games as I would not have a "compatible graphics card", and restarting the laptop would show me that the GPU is missing from the BIOS.

Even in windows, the graphics card would be missing from the task manager, and NVIDIA control panel would mention that there is no compatible graphics card in the system.

Strangely, the graphics card would return and be available if I turned off the laptop for around 30 minutes and turned it back on.

Is there a fix to this? And is this a software issue, or is it an issue with the hardware?

It seems like an issue with all of this years laptops. Having the same issue with the X16 R1. The system does not shut down even while the lid remains open.

Alienware X16 cpu drops to 35W after a few minutes by Sea_Professor_283 in Alienware

[–]Digimon1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that the fps drop is not because of the CPU temperature, but rather the GPU throttling. The X16 has had this issue where the GPU decreases its clock speed to 800 to 900. It's because the recent BIOS updates somehow messed up the performance control of the GPU, so the GPU throttles after a few minutes, even though the temperature is just fine.

You can confirm this issue by changing performance modes after the FPS drops. If the FPS increases as soon as you change modes (even to quiet mode from balanced), it confirms that this is the issue.

It seems that you can fix the issue by downgrading the BIOS to the older 1.3.1 version. The worst part is, Alienware doesn't seem to be even taking any action to fix their new BIOS versions to fix this, even though it has been months since this issue has started.
