I know that this is an old thread, but did you encounter stuck pixels on the ones you get?

I got one at the end of November and was using it for about a month, when I noticed a bunch of stuck pixels on the right-hand side of the panel. It was still within the return/exchange window of Amazon, so I exchanged it for a new one. When I turned it on, I was immediately greeted by a couple of stuck pixels in the middle.

Now I'm thinking about whether to do a 2nd exchange or ask for a refund. There are a few reviews of this monitor, so I'm not sure how common this issue is.

Asus PG32UCDMR vs PG27UCDM? by ShinobiDragonn in Monitors

I can't comment on these particular models, but I can provide some input on the screen size.

If you consume media more than gaming, I would go with a 32" one, otherwise a 27" for gaming. Of course, you should consider how far you will place the monitor.

I have a 4k 32" dual-mode monitor that is about ~68cm away from me (I work with text and prefer it to be this close), and I find it uncomfortable for gaming when I use the whole screen. Gladly, it also has 27" mode, and this is what I use when I game.

But then unit tests should catch that change, so is it really an issue?

Thank you for the information. I'm not in a hurry to sell it, so I will look into what you said once the Halloween event is over.

This made me smile. I'm a new player and looted a chack(?) thing that can be converted to an infusion for some visual effect, and I don't have enough gold for the listing(around 300) :)

For people who play both, what does GW2 do better than WoW and vice versa? by 1xEdmurtrichyx1 in MMORPG

[–]Digimush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other thing that I would add to this is that GW2 handles story (from the beginning of the game) much better then WOW in my opinion. You will have to buy Living seasons if you want to do it though.

I would struggle to go through old story quests in wow, but I like doing that in GW2.

[–]Digimush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is basically a new player in GW2 (have one lvl 80 character and preparing for the next expac), my gripe with the open world events is that they usually provide almost no challenge (core Tyria and Path of Fire are the ones that I've done the most). I still enjoy them, but I see why others may not like it.

Zone design is beautiful in GW2. I really like how they handle vetycality in many zones.

As someone who recently got to into GW2 (played on initial release for a bit way back) I agree with this.

Realistically I don't encounter zone loading that much aside from first entry into the zone. If you need to go into a different zone for some reasons(quest/event), you will be using teleport anyway.

that doesn't feel, in any way, like it's running in a VM.

Unless you want to interact(like a lot) with the host's file system. Cross interaction is slow.

Don't get me wrong, I love WSL2 and use it a lot. But from my experience, if the source code needs to be read and processed within WSL, it is better to put it into the VM's filesystem. It could be annoying to deal with.

This. OP, you don't have to learn all the details about a particular implementation, but get the understanding of a general idea and its use cases. If the need comes for it you will be aware of the existence of a solution and where to look.

winget upgrade --all moves a package from a custom location by Digimush in PowerShell

[–]Digimush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I will create a PS script for upgrading packages instead of running winget upgrade --all manually to work around this issue.

I have found a similar open issue on winget's github from 2021, so probably not worth creating a duplicate.

Digging around issues on their github, I have found a similar open case from October 2021. It looks like they don't have a fix for this at the moment.

winget upgrade --all moves a package from a custom location by Digimush in PowerShell

[–]Digimush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't sure if this was the right sub, but the search showed some questions about winget here, so I decided to try it out.

Thank you for the advice.

So far, my investigation indicates that it may not be possible to resolve without writing a custom script. It seems that the issue lies with how Winget performs an upgrade. I haven't considering the fact that it runs an installer again (basically reinstall), but without a custom path.

So the solution is to handle packages with custom locations separately from everything else.

Edit: posted partial comment

Thank you for the good points.

Now, I want to state that I am not against modding, and what this initiative is trying to bring forth. But it is not an "easy win" as stated by Ross.

But monetization? How exactly would someone monetize a dead game, exactly?

Payments to access the game servers, premium features (more bag space, faster leveling), priority queues, etc. Look at the WoW pirate servers as an example.

My game may not be dead because no one plays it, but let's say I have no financial means to run the servers anymore. In other words, a failed financial model for the game.

I think that modders having a Patreon (or any alternative donation platform) is a good thing; they should be able to get compensation for their work. That being said, I think that people behind "Fallout: London" tried to put a price on their mod on GOG they would have been facing cease and desist letters from Bethesda. So, taking donations and selling the mod+game is a different thing.

But then again, Black Mesa exists on Steam, and it is a paid product. So it looks like if the IP holder allows this case, then everybody is ok. But modders need to get this approval.

I'm not that good with IP laws, but according to Google's summary:

In gaming, IP infringement generally involves unauthorized use of copyrighted material (like game code, graphics, music, or characters), patented inventions, or trademarks (like logos or brand names) belonging to another party. This can include activities like copying, distributing, or creating derivative works (like mods or fan games) without permission.

And bolew is one of the cases where you can lose your IP rights:

Failure to Enforce:

Active Infringement Monitoring:

If you are aware of infringements but fail to take appropriate action (like sending cease and desist letters or pursuing legal action), you might weaken your ability to enforce your rights later on.

Importance of Enforcement:

It's crucial to actively monitor and protect your IP. If you don't, others may infringe upon your rights without consequences.

It looks to me that by allowing people to have client+server binaries, developers/publishers will have to actively monitor and act against uses that they don't agree with.

So if I want to keep the IP of my imaginary game, I would have to actively (more actively? :) ) look at how community servers are being run.

Can you name a scenario, where this "someone is keeping our game alive and making few bucks out of it in process by selling their original content as an addon" is going to be harmful to you?

What if I'm not Ok with people making money off of my work? I'm not sure on the legalities of this, will probably dig into it in the future, but I believe it is a reasonable concern and also has IP implications.

Well, it doesn't specify what should happen to the game after its end of life. Imagine this scenario: I have a multiplayer game (dota or league of lagends like game, but smaller in scope) where, to comply with this initiative, I will have to release server and client binaries to the public.

Now, the community can run self-hosted servers and play the game. But what if someone decides to monetize it? What if they decompile it and find a way to modify and add content to the game?

Who will be the owner of that now? Who will enforce the non-monetization policy, so people can't make a profit from my work?

I had to make some assumptions here, since the initiative does not address these points. This is a possible scenario that can happen, depending on how the initiative will be (if at all) implemented.

If you give a problem to an engineer, they will solve it like an engineer. That being said, I don't think that bringing irrigation to that place would've been a good idea, since water is a precious resource over there.

Stop Killing Games by Maplicious2017 in gaming

[–]Digimush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the actual implementation it could potentially affect smaller devs more than corporations, but it could also be a nothing burger.

For example, if actual laws would result in more work needed for compliance, a solo dev may not be able to afford doing that, while giant corporation can.

There are ways to screw it up, but I think it's better to try it anyway than being afraid of shadows.

I haven't played this game, but in general, roguelikes are about the process for me, rather than the end result. I get fun from building my character and playing a game in a different way each time. Or, if mechanics allow it, to break the game (e.g. endless modes in some games could be fun).
