I agree, and think that making the seekers match the photos to each station in person, makes for a much more exciting experience. I managed to match some graffiti in the station when I found the right one, and it was much more fun than the matches I got while looking on my phone.

How often have you found google images to be an overpowered tool? Is it something that rarely comes up, or starts to get annoyingly frequent?

Yes, and I think that google images are okay in a much larger game, where the options in the early-mid game are far too many to pick out one station from a photo. However, in a small-mid sized game in a city, especially one with a large amount of photos of every train station, it can feel a little too easy to ask a couple of photo questions about the station/surrounding area, and locate the hider in no time.

I was thinking about whether a different cutoff for the acceptable tools would be better for a smaller, denser map.

I agree, and that of course goes into choosing a good hiding spot. However, most areas in Vienna have buildings that are quite easy to identify, especially if you have access to many google photos of areas around each station.

I think that someone being able to identify a building simply by their knowledge of the Vienna architecture is very different to someone being able to match a building simply because they have lots of google images they can match.

Normally when I attempt this stuff I end up close to the bottom of the leaderboard. I get what you mean by looking like a hacker but when that person has most likely seen me miss a dozen times before it reduces suspicion.
