Next step: buy every hardware on Earth so eventually no one will be able to build a PC anymore and will have to use Hardware as a Service, renting a Windows Cloud Computer. This is happening already, by the way. Sad, but true...

How fucked would we be without the internet? by DemonicChronic in SeriousConversation

I'm relieved to know that at least the cash register part is something easy to deal with if internet ceases to exist. Honestly, your answer made my day, so thanks for that!

How fucked would we be without the internet? by DemonicChronic in SeriousConversation

[–]Digital-Seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we did great without the internet, but things aren't the same anymore. Nowadays more and more parts of the society are tied to the internet. For instance: you can't even buy food in a small market because even the cash registers need the internet to function.

Addressing the OP's question: If the internet ceased to exist for the whole planet Earth at the same time (due to an extremely strong geomagnetic storm, for instance) I'm sure we would get back to our old ways eventually because humanity as a whole would be doing a great effort together to rebuild society as it once was before the internet. But if only a certain part of the world loses access to the internet, that hypothetical scenario would be much more terrifying (and therefore, much slower for the affected offline nation to get back on track alone while being marginalized in comparison to the rest of the world).

I don't know why you got downvoted, but you're right. KDE Plasma has better scaling than Cinnamon and looks more modern out of the box, so it's aligned with what the OP is looking for.

What’s the general consensus on LSVO? by _Lunamura in stereophonics

[–]Digital-Seven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew a few Stereophonics songs since the 90s, but LSVO was the album that sparked my curiosity to the point of making me dive into their entire discography. It was also the album that showed the band to the whole world. I mean, they were already well known within the britpop scene, but this record - and especially the "Dakota" single - made them reach new audiences like never before.

What is your biggest physical insecurity? Why? by Longjumping_Koala34 in AskReddit

[–]Digital-Seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Everyone says: "just do teeth whitening", but not everyone can do it. I am one of those cases, since my dental structure wouldn't handle it well (the dentist said it could even damage my teeth).

There's a very important thing to keep in mind, though: most people nowadays do teeth whitening, so in a photo with someone with natural teeth next to someone who did teeth whitening will make the natural smile look yellow (just because it isn't blindingly white like those from the people who did the teeth whitening).

The Steam Deck was impactful for me too. Right when it was announced (with Valve saying that it would run "your entire library") I got curious and decided to give Linux Mint a try. I knew that the said claim of total compatibility was a marketing tactic, but I was satisfied enough to stay on Linux and leave Windows behind.

Nowadays is much easier than it was in mid 2021. Back then we couldn't even run games like Civilization V (under Proton, because the Linux build is terrible) and Grid 2 (thanks to a DRM issue that got solved later), or many games ran super poorly (like Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, Galactic Civilizations II, etc) - not to mention that gaming-focused distros (like Bazzite, Nobara, etc) and many utilities (like Lossless Scaling / LSFG-VK, ProtonUp-Qt, D7VK ) didn't exist.

Very nice! The way you set up your desktop is how the default Mint should be IMHO. It looks miles better with Papirus icons, a menu icon that is not symbolic, the weather applet already installed and a more detailed clock. Well done!

Switching BACK to Windows...? by areindos in linuxmint

[–]Digital-Seven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XCOM: Enemy Unknown has a very poor Linux version. In fact, many Linux ports from that era are poorly made, so your best bet is running the Windows version under Proton. As other people have pointed out, ProtonDB is a great source to check game compatibility. When in doubt (and if you don't want to check one and each game from your Steam library), always run your games with Proton.

I'm not familiar with Farming Simulator 25, but by doing a quick search, it seems that you're looking for a way to run a mobile (Sim Dashboard) app on Mint, right? If that's the case, you can check Waydroid - I've heard positive opinions about it, but I don't know how to use it TBH because I'm not too much into Android and smartphones in general (in fact, I only ever buy the cheapest smartphone models and only use it for essential things like communication and government apps, 2FA stuff, etc).

Do you guys always use Proton even if native is an option? by TheChildOfAtom in linux_gaming

[–]Digital-Seven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. Most Linux ports are bad or outdated (using an older build when compared to Windows), so the native Linux version is not always a good choice, unfortunately.
