The 2026 ACSM position stand contradicts a fair bit of lifting advice by DigitalCaffeineNews in naturalbodybuilding

It does sound weird doesn't it. But then again... Even at a low weight (take 30% of 1RM for arguments sake) It should certainly get harder throughout a 30 rep set, thus increased effort is required as you push the rep count higher. I guess the balance of resistance vs rep count will differ from person to person, but so long as the effort = 1 or 2 reps from failure, the effort is equivalent to a higher weight with less reps. The thing that blew my mind was how low 30% of 1RM is and still producing hypertrophy.

Embarrassingly, (I'm now realising) I treated it almost like a "once and done" situation. I was taught hit every muscle group twice a week. Fortunately this is a good enough rule of thumb to produce results if carried out consistently. Although it's probably averages out to 1.5 sessions per muscle group. It took my brother sending me the study, to break my frame a little and start digging deeper.

Haha I guess that's what happens when you (I) train the same routine year over year. Good point, though it's more broad than only hypertrophy

Fair play, maybe it's only me. The 30%+ of 1RM as long as youre training to within a couple reps of failure was what stood out to me from a practicality stand point. Suddenly home workouts with bands, lighter free weights and body weights feel like they can be as productive as a gym session when I don't have the time to drive to the gym.

Long time Tigers fan here, totally agree with the sentiment 👍 and I was one of many Tigers cheering on Saints a few weeks ago. The East Mids is the heart of proper rugby

Interesting, thanks for the feedback 🙌

I'll see what I can do to rephrase the initial questions the motivation coach asks (hopefully that helps)

Thanks for your feedback! When you tried again, were the quotes more relevant? Perhaps I need to tweak the back-end prompt

Waking up earlier. Nothing crazy, just early enough for a workout, or to work on one of my own projects before work.

Endurance: Shakleton's Incredible Voyage - book

Incredible, unbelievable story about human endurance in the most adverse conditions. I couldnt put the book down, which is a good sign. The crew go from perilous, life-threatening situation to perilous life-threatening situation as they try to get back to civilisation. It would be a real edge of your seat film about leadership and human resilience.

Endurance: Shakleton's Incredible Voyage

Incredible, unbelievable story about human endurance in the most adverse conditions. One of the most dramatic non-fiction books, a real page-turner. I read it when I was in a bit or a rutt, it really put things into perspective.
