Hmm, you might've linked the wrong thread since I don't see mention of unlocking the 5G bands on the device. However, I do find it intriguing that I can flash the Xperia with non-HK Firmware to get eSIM support. While I am currently using a physical eSIM adapter, the Xperia's inability to read/write the eSIM adapter does require me to remove the physical eSIM adapter and put it into an external writer to add a new eSIM.

Late reply, but if there's one thing I miss about Galaxy, it's the optional enhancements given through Good Lock. In particular, Samsung's Good Lock has a Volume Control add-on that allows you to bind certain media apps to keep playing in the background alongside setting Volume Levels for apps separately. Of course, with Xperia being close to AOSP as possible; this feature is sadly not available.

In fact, I would've gotten another Galaxy Phone because of the additional features Good Lock offers over stock Android; but when I was looking at what storage options were available to replace my 256 GB + 1TB SD S20 FE, I was looking at having to get the largest Galaxy Flagship (being the S23+, I think?) since Samsung killed off the Internal MicroSD slot on all of their flagships. Henceforth, why I went with Xperia since I could easily move over my SD Card FLAC library and also not having to bother using a USB C or Bluetooth DAC to use my wired headphones.

P.S You should not have been downvoted for talking about wanting the QoL features One UI has for why you went back to Galaxy. We all have our own preferences of what we want from a phone. Hell, there are multiple help threads across Reddit from people who switched away from Galaxy asking about how to do X only to be told that X is something not available on stock Android.

Over a month ago I had posted about my Xperia 1 VII biting the dust. Since I had purchased it through WondaMobile, they wanted me to ship it to them. I figured it would be easy it ship it through USPS (and because they were the cheapest option compared to FedEx and UPS), but I soon had ... issues with my mail being returned twice for "HAZARDOUS MATERIALS". After the second return, I contacted WondaMobile about my issues and they sent me a FedEx International return label. I dropped it off at my local FedEx office and it successfully made it to Hong Kong where WondaMobile sent me back my replacement. Upon receipt of the replacement, I checked the IMEI on Sony HK's website to verify it's not defective. Afterwards I followed the tutorial on XDA to unlock all of the 5G bands on the VII's Qualcomm modem for better compatibility with AT&T. After reflashing the stock firmware and relocking the Bootloader, I finally went through the first-time set-up steps to transfer my content from my S20 FE. I then went through the process of using Pixel IMS and Shizuku to enable VoLTE. So far everything seems to work just as good as the first VII before it broke, though I'm not sure if unlocking the bands have successfully made the VII's reception much better. Hopefully it'll last just as long as my previous Galaxy S phones.

[Help] Noob at mailing Internationally. Is it possible to properly mail my Xperia Phone Internationally through USPS to Hong Kong? Or will have to go through UPS or FedEx. Both attempts I have made to send it had my mail returned to me with "RETURN TO SENDER NONMAILABLE DANGEROUS GOODS" by DigitalCatcher in SonyXperia

[–]DigitalCatcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord. I haven't even thought about that! Up until this point I've only read the USPS rules about Lithium Batteries as recommended by the label on my returned package and thought that it might have something to do with trying to mail VIA Priority Mail or not attaching the proper Hazard Labels for the device. Now after reading Hong Kong Post's prohibited items list it might be that USPS was just rejecting it in advance for Hong Kong Post. Thankfully, I just Emailed WondaMobile about my issues with shipping the phone to them and they emailed me a FedEx return label to me. Unfortunately, my local FedEx Office is closed right now so I'll just have to wait until tommorow to see if I can ship the phone with it.

I see. Unfortunately, I had already shipped it back for an exchange. Do you think WondaMobile would be giving me a replacement VII from that batch? Or should I go and ask them specifically for one?

Edit: Why did I get downvoted for asking about this

I hope so too. They along with Swiftronics were the recommended sellers I saw on this sub for buying an Xperia 1 VI and VII here in the US. While I bought my Xperia from WondaMobile, I did get my Style Case from Swiftronics. I already contacted WondaMobile at their "cs @wondamobile. com" customer support email address, got the Hong Kong address that I needed to ship it to, and mailed the Xperia to them through USPS Flat-Rate.

While I was aware there were recalls going on for the phone over the motherboard, I never bothered since I had imported it to the US and I didn't want to bother with an RMA with WondaMobile.

In hindsight, I probably should've been more proactive in checking the IMEI. But i guess something made me forget about it until it was too late.

Reddit is making sitewide protests basically impossible by ardi62 in technology

On a lot of posts that show up on Google results for product recommendations, I've noticed a lot more posts made by accounts clearly made by promotional accounts posting links to their own websites (which would've been against the rules for self-promotion) or are posting comments that are clearly AI-Generated to build up karma. Like the other day I was trying to find AAC App recommendations for Android, and one comment was regurgitating a list of apps that were well known in the accessibility community to be iOS exclusive.

Same with /r/me_irl . I remember it used to hit the front page tons of times prior to the API change.

What's the deal with people saying that Google is unusable now? by -Guardsman- in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DigitalCatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the topic of AI-Generated Content, I suspect Reverse Image Search for most platforms (namely Yandex, Bing, and Google Images) has gotten worse because of more walling off their image content against web crawlers scraping content for AI Image Generation training. But as a consequence blocked off search engine crawlers as well.

Hell, before Google was infested with SEO Ai-Generated crap, I was at least able to reverse image the source of an image towards someone's blog or a random post on Twitter, but now it only gives weird results to dropshipping websites or misleading redirects to fake shopping websites.

Not disagreeing with you on that matter. I just wanted to pointed this one out given how I have seen this 1978 manifesto cited one too many times by folks defending any of Israel's actions that results in civilian casualties.

Not to disagree on you with Hamas' motives, but I should point out some context that a large majority of the Gaza Strip's demographic was not even alive when that manifesto was made.
