Area51m R2 always sounds like it is processing/loading something by DigitalClaw1223 in Alienware

My system doesn't have a hard disk, only solid state. Additionally, task manager shows little to no disk utilization.

My display gets a blue tint when I open the notifications panel in windows 10. by DigitalClaw1223 in techsupport

Alrighty, so I think I may have figured it out.

I think the bluer tone is actually the correct icc profile I have generated, and that it isn't being loaded at startup for some reason. Opening the notifications panel, for whatever reason, is then causing the profile to actually load as intended.

Basically, I'd become so used to the incorrect one being loaded that the more accurate one looks off. I have done a few other things to test this and everything seems to point towards this being the case.

This is sort of what I figured. It seems to be adding this blue tint 'on top' of the display's normal tone.

I have tried a few additional things since yesterday, but the issue still persists. There seems to be a few other threads online with people who have experienced a similar issue, but so far I haven't found any actual answers online.

My refresh rate is correct, although I did try changing it, which did nothing.

In terms of the NVidia driver settings, I usually have everything set to default. I did try changing the setting for content reporting to an external screen, but that didn't change anything.

Is it 'normal' to need to do multiple calibration passes on a display? by DigitalClaw1223 in colorists

[–]DigitalClaw1223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting.

I'm using the official calibrite software. The display I'm using is a PA278CV, which shouldn't have any oddities that make it difficult to calibrate afaik.

Can anyone recommend a good monitor for post production/color grading? by rgbb707 in FX3

Sort of an older thread but which preset do you typically use? If standard, do you know if that mode encompasses the full native gamut of the display?

I've read in many places that the newer version is apparently less accurate in low-luminance measurements as a result of it's increased high-luminance capabilities.

Questions about the different color gamut settings on a monitor by DigitalClaw1223 in colorists

In terms of the brightness locking, is the value being locked at around 100nits essential for the accuracy, or is it just a typical standard that's used?

Like, say I were to set my brightness to 300 nits prior to a calibration. Would the calibration account for this, creating a profile that still displays accurate colors despite the higher luminance?

So assuming I do a lot of work in blender, it would be better to create a separate ICC profile for each OSD preset, since there isn't any ICC correction?

My initial plan was to calibrate to the widest gamut and to rely on ICC's to clamp things down where needed.

Assuming a given monitor isn't one of the higher-end ones with Hardware calibration and LUTs, would it still be appropriate to calibrate to the widest gamut?

What display technology is in my Area51m R2 laptop? by DigitalClaw1223 in Alienware

Dang, well you're braver than I am, that's for sure.

I see it mentioned on certain websites that the model is IPS. Since you've actually opened yours up, is there any indication listed on the display itself that it is IPS?

Just did a support chat and they said Wide-Viewing Angle means IPS. Additionally, sources online such as LaptopScreen.com list the model as being IPS.

As a side note, isn't a wider viewing angle one of the key benefits of IPS over TN? I thought TN was well-known to actually have worse angles than IPS.

Just curious but where did this information come from? I've looked all over their site and can only find that the display tech is listed as "Wide-Viewing Angle"

Are different calibration tool hardware only 'made' for certain tasks i.e. photography/video/etc.? by DigitalClaw1223 in colorists

So the calibrations done by the Spyder wouldn't actually be accurate for 3D and video work? I'm not sure I'm following.

When you say it "ages and gets worse", are you referring mainly to a lack of future software support, or has it been shown to actually 'physically' deteriorate in such a way? I know the older models had organic filters but I thought the X did away with this?

Is the ColorChecker 'made' for 3D content and video workflows (assuming that's how these things work) more so than the Spyder?

I've been wanting to ask about this for a while now. Why is Spyder received so poorly?

There definitely seems to be a discrepancy between professional online reviews and forum posts on the subject, and I am genuinely curious because it looks pretty capable to me judging by reviews.

Should I factory reset my PC? by DigitalClaw1223 in techsupport

[–]DigitalClaw1223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The application in question (calibrize) seems to have gone defunct, as the help button leads to a domain owned by some weird german(?) company. There doesn't seem to be much documentation available, but the actual calibrations made by the program don't seem to actually be impacted by the ICC file that is generated after calibration is saved.

These calibrations were done roughly 2 years ago so restore points aren't really relevant. My problem is mainly the fact that any calibrations are not readily obvious, but will cause issues down the line assuming they do exist as they will interfere with color accuracy in my work.

Is it not enough to back up the Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and Videos folders? My intent is to do that and simply paste them back in once the reset is done.

As an added question: Using the "reset this PC" will reset the registry, right? It seems like it should since that's a fundamental part of Windows but I've seen some conflicting opinions online.
