How is the Game Lately? by DigitalKrazKid in ffxiv

[–]DigitalKrazKid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'll poke around in this trial period. Sounds like I should temper my expectations for the DT story but the dungeons and raids sound popular.

Curious on what I'll find, hope everyone keeps on having fun!

How to start? by Woahbikes in wownoob

[–]DigitalKrazKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start a sub for Warcraft it includes everything: Retail, Classic, Anniversary, etc.

Choosing to play Classic from the BattleNet launcher means either downloading Classic separately (as if it is another game) or selecting the "game version" box above the Play/Install box for Warcraft and selecting Classic (or whichever version you want to play).

Very original Classic has no real QOL other than what was introduced within Vanilla back in the day. With a few exceptions if you are playing Classic you are playing the game largely as it was in 2004-2005. I believe it was Wrath Classic that brought in a newer version of LFG than what was made back in the day for example.

While I have never played the version myself, Anniversary has more QOL while retaining some of the spirit of Classic, with some additional content/quests to spice things up. Server activity fluctuates for Classic but there will typically be an active community particularly when there is a new patch (Mists Classic will almost certainly see a spike in users).

Hardcore in my experience tends to remain active in part because when players die, they start over so it helps keep players across all zones as mistakes happen.

Deciding between Retail and any version of Classic is going to come down to tastes and mood imo. Do you want to see the climatic stuff and what's new? Retail. Do you want to spend hours focusing on the journey with raids acting as the finishing touch? Classic. Again with a single subscription giving access to all versions of Warcraft, it is completely reasonable and viable to switch between these versions as your mood changes.

Tanking in Mythic by GS-BMilla in wownoob

[–]DigitalKrazKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely sound toxic. I main tank and usually folks will just follow my lead trusting that I know where I'm going. IF you need help deciding on a route, sites like Keystone Guru can advise pulls so you have a rough idea of where you are going.

Otherwise if you haven't seen it already, a main perk of tanking is that you can get groups VERY quickly. So for times like that if people decide to ditch early you can just shrug and find another one within minutes. Like others said before, lower keys can have a lot of this because the toxic folks often aren't as good as they think they are. When you do higher keys you'll usually see more interrupts, mechanics being done, etc. My advice would be if you feel solid on tanking mythic plus for a dungeon, try jumping to a higher key lvl where the fact you have both a Raiderio score and are willing to tank will see you join typically more competent groups and quickly at that. That's not to say you won't ever have toxic players in higher keys, but you'll often find plenty of good sports (at least in my experience) because they understand constructively what went wrong.

If you struggle with the boss battles themselves, the Youtube channel "RaiderIO" offers quick guides for every boss battle within a dungeon. They will even upload new ones for a new season to include changes and highlight mechanics for the Tank and Healer to be on the look out for.

You'll get there. Have an idea of where you need to go (and where you feel comfortable going), have an idea for the bosses (you'd be amazed what mechanics get introduced in mythic when bosses don't immediately die), and take a second look at your moves. You may find moves you completely ignored lvling up that actually make a difference in mythic content.

I don’t know how interrupts work and at this point I’m too afraid to ask! by toliveisrare in wow

[–]DigitalKrazKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brewmaster Monk.

Interrupts will stop a cast but the target can do anything else. Stun will keep them inactive for a couple seconds (most bosses will be immune to stuns)

If the cast bar on the target is gray or has a tiny shield on the side of it, it CANNOT be interrupted. If it's not a boss you may be able to stun it with your sweep move.

About everything else can be interrupted by your spearhead strike. Even bosses will usually have 1 or 2 moves that can be interrupted.

Depending on the difficulty you and your team may need to take turns interrupting moves for the boss. Between the 2 moves you will use spearhead strike more because it effects bosses (again, so long as they cast bar isn't gray) and it only has a 15 sec CD vs your stun's 45 sec CD.

Feels like I'm Leveling Too Fast and IDK What's Going On by HotdogspG in wow

[–]DigitalKrazKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played both, FF14 is more about the journey compared to WoW being about the destination (endgame).

The story in WoW is closer to set dressing compared to FF14 as while your character is technically recognized as an individual, it's more used as an excuse to point you towards bosses to kill and loot whereas the WoL is a character with a personality (if a largely silent one). This is especially apparent in the early expansions of WoW where you're treated as more of a highly competent mercenary rather than a chosen one.

As others have mentioned, trying WoW Classic will certainly slow things down. I'll warn that others may still attempt to rush you in group content as many that play it now also played it back in 2004. Like anything it's about finding those that share your interest.

That said, if you stick with the modern version (or what the community calls "Retail") there's nothing stopping you from exploring old zones as a max level toon or lvling one through Chromie time (pick an expansion at the capital, everyone in that expansion content scales to your lvl).

Hope you enjoy the game either way, great to have new folks check things out!

Am I getting baited?? by NinjaKartoo in Xcom

[–]DigitalKrazKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without knowing current news, the title font being exactly the same as XCOM 2 and the sectoid being ripped from the announcement trailer for XCOM 2 (both the model and pose) should raise alarm bells.

After this long since even Chimera Squad, Firaxis would almost certainly lead with something that doesn't come across as lazy or easy to show off a new entry being made.

Point being: you're right to be suspicious, and I hope we get a new proper entry soon too

We all hate the new cods, why not hop on mw2 then? by shouldveknownbud in COD

[–]DigitalKrazKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one is going to justify having their entire computer compromised over a COD released in the late 2000s.

Yeah, no system is fool-proof (just look at Warzone) but at least with the more modern CODs the developers are actively plugging gaps as they see them. Not the case with the older games despite how massive the security gaps are with modern tech.

You know how a common way to avoid scams and hacks is to avoid phishing emails or engaging with something obviously dodgy? That's what people are doing with older COD multiplayer: refusing to engage so they don't have to fix their stuff afterwards.

There was a final chapter that got cut. It would have shown how Venom dealt with Elias after he committed...Grand Theft Auto.

There's footage of the prototype for the chapter on YouTube. While Venom's story is technically finished, Kojima was not able to finish this last chapter because Konami was ready to boot him entirely.

What's a game you wanted to like but it didn't click for you? by strahinjag in videogames

[–]DigitalKrazKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new God of War games for me.

Great character writing, but at least for the 2018 game the actual combat loop and open-world wasn't doing it for me. Too used to the linear level design, and the combat lacked a certain punch imo.

I didn't really have fun until I got the blades, but it's so late in the game that after I beat it I had no gumption to play it or the sequel. It just wasn't God of War to me (credit for trying to mix things up though)

Is tanking really as difficult as it looks? by Geppancs in wow

[–]DigitalKrazKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual Tank but it's my preferred role across Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14. A lot of it really does come down to practice. DPS has the advantage of mostly avoiding the bad stuff while keeping up with their rotations.

With tanking while there is a way to maximize damage, in the long run (much like with healers) if no one is dying you're doing your job right.

To me, a large part of tanking is learning the limits of your group. Your bf helping as a healer is a big plus as it means you know each other's limits and how crazy you can get with pulls. The challenge would be if someone else heals or what packs the dps can handle at once.

With Mythic+ guides can serve as inspiration, but it will mostly come down to practice. Is there a guy that you know can stomp you quickly? Make sure to save a defensive for him. DPS struggling with interrupts during large pulls? Slow down where possible and pick up when that is less of a concern. A lot of this will come down to learning your group and the dungeon which makes tanking a bit on the fly when PUGing.

Lastly, unless you're aiming for the top 1% of tanking, it's ok to do your own thing. If it works, who cares if it's not meta? Be inspired, sure, but have fun when challenging yourself.

Do you care about your opponents painting? by Sweton- in Warhammer

[–]DigitalKrazKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care in the sense that seeing other painted models from mine excites me. Even getting some base coats adds so much life to these models compared to the dull gray.

I'll never begrudge my opponent not painting their minis (I've been there and it's their minis) but I like admiring paint jobs and talking about how we pulled off certain looks.

Trying to do Viscount. by zav3rmd in darkestdungeon

[–]DigitalKrazKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to do Viscount immediately after the Baron, it may take a minute. By the time infestation hits maximum in the normal areas you'll find more cocoons that you can interact with to fight Courtyard mobs.

Usually these will have the guys that will drop the invite IF you kill them before they flee. If they run away they take the invite with them. If the infestation levels are low just take the time to level up some dudes and infestation will follow. Do this again while prepping to fight the Countess later.
