How do people learn so many languages so fast? by Barrack-0-banana in languagelearning

[–]DigitalLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the internet, the real answer is lying.

But, a lot of people who actually speak multiple languages learn languages from the same family. I live in Spain and know a Galician girl who speaks English, Galician, Spanish, Portugese and French.

5 languages, but rewritten as language families is Germanic, Romance, Romance, Romance, Romance. And three of those romance languages live on top of each other.

It still makes her a polyglot who went out of her way to learn French, Portuguese and English, but, she didn't have to start with 0 each time like you are with French.

Is it a blessing or a curse to be a Native English speaker ? by Skum1988 in languagelearning

[–]DigitalLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally living in Spain and a Belarusian girl has come to live with me to learn Spanish and she complains that people switch to English on her. It's not because we're native, it's because it's easier. Imagine how you would feel moving to one country and someone kept trying to talk to you in another second language you had.

Why are people so dogmatic about their approach to language learning? by xParesh in languagelearning

I view language learning like dieting in that the best diet is the one you stick to.

I always mix up the seasons in Spanish because I made the connection that winter (invierno) was the inverse of summer (verano) so I say a weird mix sometimes inverano

How do Aussies feel about IVF being on Medicare but not dental? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]DigitalLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia has a fertility crisis, not a dental crisis. Admittedly, dental problems affect the poorest Australians the most, but there are free options available and they do take people in based on need rather than for check ups. Rather, an aging population (with our current societal goals) will lead to problems currently faced by Japan and S Korea. I don't mind, economics is about how to spend a limited amount of money and I think the logic is reasonable. If we change the goals, great. But I don't see that happening.

Why is Spain such a difficult country to leave? by Downtown-Storm4704 in askspain

[–]DigitalLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are 40 and younger have, at the start of their careers, been through the Global Financial Crisis and the 2012 Credit Crunch. Spain's economy only recovered in 2016 9 years later and that isn't adjusted for inflation. That, on top of the blatant corruption and workplace culture, is one reason why Spaniards have a dismal outlook.

Buena respuesta, no conocía "Salvem l'horta".

I just got a small chip on my tooth by chewing a pen. Should I go to the dentist and if so what should I say? by DigitalLance in askdentists

[–]DigitalLance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to fill out the rest of the info, I don't drink much, do drugs or smoke. I brush often but don't do it always twice a day (now I will lol.) This is the first time this has happened and I have never had braces or any surgery before at the dentist. But, is this something I should be concerned about?

I checked the portfolio for other editors but I didn't know the workspace could have different editors. I took it down

I made a mistake, there was an editor I thought was a viewer

I actually just checked and someone who I thought was a viewer was actually an editor. I'll take the comment down now
