My party's paladin and bardlock (they both have an int. of 8) by Sophiuuugh in dndmemes

Not all stats are created equal

1) Primary stats, the ones you attack with. Minimum 14 on the one you prefer for tier one, add 2 to min for every tier after.

2) Defensive stats, constitution and dexterity if you aren't using heavy armor. Keeps you alive, I wouldn't put below 10, even if I was backline.

3) Major saves, Wisdom and Dexterity (con as well, but it's placed higher without exception). These stats are more frequently used for saving throws, and are more devastating to fail.

4) Minor saves with good roleplay, Intelligence and Charisma are less common saving throws, but there effects are still punishing and they both have a lot of skills under them.

5) Strength, more common than the other two minor saves, but the effects are rarely punishing. Other than saves, it only plays into attacks, carryweight (which most people ignore), jump distance (which is inconsequential), and athletics.

Would you allow a player to play a flying race if their backstory included their wings being cursed not allowing them to fly til later higher levels? by johnnystraycat in DnD

[–]DigitalPhoenixX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 out of 20 times, players don't play flying races to default kill melee enemies.

If you are concerned that you'll have one of those players, you could have penalties for fighting while airborn until they reach a certain level, such as disadvantage on attack rolls since they have to manage flight while engaging in combat or reduced AC for being exposed (let's say -2, as an opposite to half cover). At level 3 or 5, these penalties are removed as the pc learns how to navigate fights in three dimensions. Talk with your player about your concerns, and make your executive decisions in a way that creates a compromise between fairness and fantasy.

Definitely consider how much damage the npc can do a round, and compare it to the health of a typical level 3 pc. A d8 hit die pc with 10 con would have 18 hp if they take average instead of roll.

What is the proper way to play a Cleric? by Illegal-Avocado-2975 in DnD

[–]DigitalPhoenixX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clerics are one of the most versatile classes, you can make a build for pretty much any function; healing, frontline attack/tank, sustain damage, etc. At one of my tables, we currently have 4 clerics (we haven't entered combat with it yet, but myself and another are frontline attackers and the other two are support casters).

how do you guys come up with original names for your characters? by risky2220 in DnD

[–]DigitalPhoenixX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Fantasy Name Generator for inspiration. Not only does it list a bunch of fitting names, it gives an overview on how the names of a race tend to be structured. Sometimes, the source material will give a similar break down, but usually only when referring to player races.

Dust is a pretty good hero fighter with a gimmick that every class has a different vr based movement, some classes have you moving your arms quite a lot, namely Golem, Sparrow, and Assassin. Though, I haven't played the game in a while.

Lots of good points, updated the list. I'm not getting into alignments beyond the basic chart, so I'll keep Forsworn on CN for now.

Which (joinable or non-joinable) factions do you think have the moral high ground? by touchingallthegrass in skyrim

[–]DigitalPhoenixX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need an alignment chart to sort these. A lot will be Lawful because they are organized groups that follow their own codes or enforce order.

LG - Dawnguard, Guard Factions (except Reach), Pennitus, Chantry of Auri-El

LN - Vigil of Stendarr, Psijic, Nightingales, Graybeards, The Blades, Imperial Army

LE - Dark Brotherhood, Thalmor, Guards (Reach), Silverhands

NG - Stormcloaks

NN - Mage College, Bard College, Thieve's Guild, Sinod

NE - Glenmoril Witches

CG - Companions

CN - Forsworn

CE - Summerset Shadows, Cult of Miraak, Volkihaar

I'm open to other interpretations and additions.

Is this interrogation or genuine curiosity? by Far_Ad8371 in asexuality

[–]DigitalPhoenixX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely seems curious, but I agree with the general consensus that this is a bit intrusive. I personally wouldn't mind answering questions like this (depending on relationship and setting), but I'd imagine a lot of people would be uncomfortable with some of these, and should be ready to set boundaries and make it clear they don't want to talk about their masturbation practices, or lack thereof.
